Chara sighs; they’ve been over this. “I know. I’m trying as hard as I can.”
“Wish I could tell her.”
“...I just…” They’ve had this conversation before, Frisk knows, and there’s no point in continuing it because Chara is generally adamant. But still, they can’t help bringing it up. “I don’t want it to become a big deal. And I think it’s going to work, but I don’t want to get her hopes up, in case things go badly.” He must be feeling kinder today, because usually he’d punctuate his words by saying that Frisk already knows as much.
Still, they don’t hesitate before they respond. “You got my hopes up.”
“That was different.” Chara says, brows knitting together, and Frisk silently agrees.

Well. Maybe captivating is the right word. They’re another human—you don’t see a lot of those in this part of town—but they’re far from the stuffy office type Frisk would expect to be working in a place like this. Long brown hair trimmed neatly and pulled from their face by a clamshell clip, a plethora of cartilage piercings—and a septum—and a cropped, dark green corduroy jacket over a pair of distressed black jeans with tears in the knees. They look… frankly… like a college student. They seem to be about Frisk’s age too, with a cheery grin and big, vibrant scarlet red eyes that latch onto them and stay there, as if MK hasn’t captured their attention at all.
To be fair, Frisk isn’t all that interested in the flower either. They suddenly feel a touch underdressed in their apron and old sweater.

In later chapters, they will also have to take care of the versions of Shadow and Maria from the world this new Sonic (called Phantom) comes from.
