Jumper’s been dreaming of speedrunning. This should be normal, for someone who’s found a new hobby, who just won a tournament for it a week ago.

    It really isn’t.

That particular Unique was on the smaller side of the line up, but would still tower over a standard model.  Its armored chassis was a dull green.  Joe wondered at the coloration; surely it couldn’t be for camouflage.  Even back on Earth there wasn’t enough greenery in one place to allow something of this size to blend in.  It had a bipedal design, and seemed unusually bulky around the shoulders and legs.   Built for strength, not speed Joe guessed.  Its head was adorned with orange-red cables, each wider than a city bus.  They were retracted to chin-length while inactive, but Joe knew very well how they could extend past the length of its body.  How they could toss buildings like game pieces.

Joe had suspected before, but now she knew for certain.

This was the mech he’d witnessed at the destruction of Nashville.

    This was GORGON.

    And she was its pilot.

He’d joked to Karl, back then, that he felt like a pet as much as a boyfriend— like an expensive teacup dog you carried around in a handbag, a well-behaved little creature that you taught about whiskey distilleries and then fucked until he cried.

And he’d liked it, too. After all, he had it made, right? All his problems taken care of by a man who adored him, a sexy older guy with a nice big dick that worked and a mouth he knew how to use.

When Schlatt first involved himself in arrangements for Quackity’s surgery, it had twinged a little bit sure, but mostly it had felt benignly inevitable. Schlatt demanded only the best for himself, and wasn’t that a good thing?

The truth of it is, Quackity was never going to say “no.” The truth is, he never considered it.

    (or)

Schlatt buys Quackity a fancy new dick. Schlatt’s not the only man Quackity wants to enjoy it with.

Kristin laughed, the sound emerging too-loud in the half-empty bar. She hung her head in her hands. “Oh yeah,” she told the bar top. “I mean, the mechs—they were originally designed to battle sculk anyways, and it’s not like anything bad happened to the people who built them, so we’ll be good.”

“Oh yeah, all those ancient cities still goin’ strong today.” Techno ran a finger around the top of his glass. “Civilization standin’ strong overall. Whole situation went so well, I don’t give us more than a 50% chance of someone dyin’. Maybe 40% if we’re lucky.”

“Oh god.” Kristin emerged from her hands laughing, and pushed her hair out of her face. “No worries, it’ll go great to go back there. We’ll all do great. Happy about this, actually.” Ponk came over with the bottle and refilled her glass, and she nodded to them. “Thanks.”

“And if only one of us dies—” Techno grinned at her, tired. “Then the other person just has to deal with it. And that’s easy. I’m doing great.”

“I’m doing great,” Kristin echoed, a little choked up. She straightened fully and looked down at her drink, turning the stem of the glass between her fingers. “I miss him.” She cleared her throat. “I miss my husband, Techno.”

Of all the people Melissa expected to see sitting sidestage at Las Casualonas, Mariana wasn’t one of them. This place isn’t really his scene, after all, and it’s not even a show night. But all six foot something of Mariana is slumped in a chair, looking forlornly at the beer in his hand. He looks sad, of all things. What kind of idiot comes to a strip club sad?

He remembered the agony of them losing, how all they had been told was they were being terminated - that it was over. He remembered his vision going blurry, hearing the far away screams of the others losing their loved ones as they lost. He heard Phil call his name but it was too late. All he saw was the black void and the deafening silence - it felt like his ears were being pushed into his skull, like he was desperately clawing for any sort of stimulation.

It felt like it lasted for weeks, months. Years even. Until the eye had appeared, saying they had been given a second chance. That the remaining teams would each choose them one by one. Etoiles felt hope for a brief second before the fear set in, he would lose Roier - there was no way the red team didn’t choose Roier. And while red chose him, blue would want Etoiles for his skill set. He wasn’t anything but an asset to the blue team and he knew they would abuse that.

It had made his stomach turn before and it made his stomach turn now, he sat up in bed and took a deep breath as he remembered the sickening feeling. Roier had cared for him the past few days that he had not felt before and a selfish part of him wasn’t ready to lose that.

Philza: Transatlantic, the Corvarians, all those motherfuckers who couldn’t handle us having a stronghold and good mines, they cut us off from everything in the darkest time of the year. They trapped us in the cold, in eternal night, because they figured if we starved to death, Port-aux-Francais would give them whatever deals they wanted, and they didn’t care who they were fucking killing.

We were peaceful, before the embargo. We just wanted trade deals, we collaborated with anyone who’d help us build our railroads. We never struck the first blow. After the embargo– after that winter– we figured that wasn’t gonna work.

Interviewer: So you adopted some new technologies.

Philza: Yeah, we had innovations in our manufacturing, our greenhouses, our fucking sanitation– but that’s not what you’re talking about, right? Forget the emperor shit. If you’re interviewing me about this, you don’t want to hear about the greenhouses.

You want to hear about the planes.

    Summary

Everyone seemed to know each other, and they were all chatting sociably. Ranboo tugged on one of his bracelets and made himself let it go before he snapped the elastic. None of the other people in the room seemed especially depressed. How was he going to fit in here, in the “intensive therapy and life skills” his doctor had suggested they try? They never felt like they knew what they were doing, how was this going to do, classes and group therapy added to the mix?

A tall man with glasses and long faded pink hair sat down one seat away. He had a bag from the hospital coffee shop clutched in one hand and a coffee cup in the other. “You gluten free?” the man with the pink hair asked, glancing in his direction and then frowning at thin air. He snatched his glasses off his face and polished at the lenses with one hand.

Ranboo glanced at him uncertainly, but there was no one else in this corner of the room. They’d chosen it specifically because they could have their back to the majority of the room when they were sitting in it. “No?” he ventured.

The man with the pink hair held out the paper coffee shop bag. “Got a ginger cookie but I changed my mind. Do you want it?”

The manner in which an animal routinely casts off a part of its body (often, but not always, an outer layer or covering), either at specific times of the year, or at specific points in its life cycle.

The door swings open, and Hob looks up, as automatic as a blink or a breath. He’s not expecting anything. It’s been three months and four days, six hours and thirty-nine minutes, and all he had been told was more than once a century.

Dream is standing in the doorway.

    He looks like hell.

    Summary

Phil doesn’t go into the cities anymore. Once had been enough, and he doesn’t have a death wish.

He chooses only to watch them in the distance, or pass by them from time to time as he walks. The buildings loom in the distance, their once-shining rooftops now overgrown and dull with no one to take care of them. If you get close enough, you smell the stench of rot and death. It’s a smell you can never get out of your nose, discovered one night after the initial wave where Phil tried desperately to scrub out his nose, sticking cloth and then even fingers as far up as he could to try and wash the smell out of his sinuses. It didn’t work, and the smell has stayed with him since. He tries to look past it, look past the cities, and continue walking forward. That’s what he attributes his survival to, really. The ability to look past everything, stare the dead in the eyes, and still walk on after he’s shot them in the head. They were people once, but thinking about it too much makes his hands start to shake so Phil looks past it and walks on.

(SBI zombie apocalypse AU. sort of phil-centric, but not entirely!)

    Summary

Far above the skin of a carnage planet, its violet sky is darkening to bruised green. Its pimples twitch with death throes. This planet has been a battlefield since the first starship alighted upon its skin; it will be a battlefield until its own sun consumes it, its turf cursed, its fields mass graves until the end of time. Such is the carnage that is rooted deep into its heart. Such is the blood that fills its single natural river. Such is the darkness that sings at its core, waiting, waiting, waiting.
When Wilbur was younger, he was one of many. When Techno was younger, he was thrown into a pit. When Phil was younger, his best friend told him he was going to be a god.
The crows are a storm in the sky, at carnage's beck and call. Phil can hear them screaming bloody murder.
