She was convinced she'd never seen anyone look so delighted and dumbfounded in the same moment as Mira did before they turned away and headed for the front door. Zoey huffed out a laugh and returned to Rumi, climbing into his lap before she buried her face into his neck and groaned loudly.
"Baby, I'm so fucked."

Rumi and Zoey meet Mira at a party after a long week and find themselves instantly pulled into their orbit in a way that feels almost too good to be true. Are they imagining it, or is there something there for all of them?
Mira begrudgingly shows up at the party because Abby has been pestering them about it for what feels like an eternity. They expect to get bored an hour in and go home to their silent apartment and the loneliness they can't seem to shake. Zoey and Rumi rock that foundation almost immediately and Mira wonders if they're finally going to have a chance to build something real. If they can ignore the sinking feeling that they'll only ruin it all anyway.

“This is not an emergency.” She assures firmly, pausing in her path to stare at her comrades. “But we need to respond with care.”
“How is this not an emergency!” Protests a squeaky voice and Leader Rumi sighs.
“Because it is literally just four words, Anxious Rumi.”
“But, those four words could lead to twenty more! Or a hundred more!”

mira admired rumi’s features with the same amount of love and affection that she always did, acting as though nothing was out of the ordinary as she soaked in her wife’s radiance. she leaned in with delicate confidence and kissed rumi softly on her lips this time, “isn’t she pretty?”
a beat of silence. and then another. five heart beats, she counted, unsure of who she was waiting for to speak. and then realization struck. zoey blinked, glancing between both sets of eyes looking directly at her, “me?”
mira nodded, nosing against rumi’s ear and kissing the side of her cheek. zoey had never been asked something so directly like this by one of them either, and couldn’t help but feel like it was some sort of ploy to catch her in the act. for her to slip up and admit how badly she wanted her wife.
because of course she wanted her. she wanted both of them.
zoey likes the married couple next door a little bit more than she should. luckily for her, it seems like they might like her just as much.
