Summary
Their towels are already spread on the sand, bags and shoes placed at the corners to keep them from blowing away. Neil is sitting with his knee pulled close to his chest, staring out at the water, seemingly fine, but Andrew knows better. He always does. Neil wouldn’t have even noticed anything was wrong, if Andrew didn't suddenly press his palm against the back of his neck.
“Your mother is dead,” Andrew says, detached and even. “But you are alive.”
Neil and Andrew take a needed trip away to the coastline. The soft sand and salty air stir up more memories than either of them hoped it would.

For all of his brushes with death, Neil has never really believed in any sort of afterlife, nor that his mother has ever been able to watch over him, even now.
But Neil never did stop feeling haunted.

"I was such a neurotic fucking kid," Kyle says. "How'd you guys put up with me?"
"Um, first of all, 'was?'" Stan says, and Kyle kicks him. "And secondly, like, whatever. You were the best person in South Park, easy. I knew that from day one." Stan holds up a finger to emphasize: day one. Kyle snorts.
"Best person in South Park is like saying, uh. Best Chinese food in Mexico."
They both laugh hard at this, Stan shaking his head.
"To my best friend," he says, lifting his glass of vodka. "Kyle Broflovski: the best Chinese food in Mexico. Probably the best Chinese food in the world."
"There's better Chinese food in L.A., I bet," Kyle says. He clinks his glass against Stan's and drinks.
"Nope," Stan says. "You're the best Chinese food anywhere. Your Chinese food is better than the Chinese food in China."

"I am not going to crash," Neil says, voice even and flat, but Andrew feels him shift again in unease.
"No? When was the last time you were sick?" Andrew asks. Then he tilts his head and narrows his eyes, deciding to go for the throat to stop any further back-and-forths. "And by that I mean when was the last time you were allowed to be sick?"
Neil crashes. Andrew deals with it.
