“Celeste’s settled,” Dean says.
Because Dean knows that’s what Bobby is trying to figure out. He can’t help but have it come out defensively, more than used to how adults typically reacted to that news. Some with skepticism. Others will stare at Celeste and stumble over some barely-disguised insult on her choice of form. The worst, though, are the ones who look at them with pity.
Bobby doesn't do any of that. Aside from a slight pursing of his lips, he seems to absorb the information, then move on without comment. “Alright. Y’gonna help then, or what? Yer old enough to use a knife without guttin’ yerself, yeah?”

There was something nagging at him, a frustrating puzzlement over how empty the building was. There wasn’t any debris and barely any dust, yet the place also showed no signs of being recently cleaned. It was almost… unnatural. It was enough for him to linger, to be so lost in thought that he didn’t move towards Morgan and the doorway as quickly as he should have.
He would forever regret not moving a bit faster.

They hadn’t told him, but Donnie had eyes. He could observe it. He wasn’t asking for thanks or open appreciation— he knew people only did that when they wanted something more from him or wanted to hurt him. Knowing they were content without him because of his actions was all that mattered.
(He missed praise. He missed turtle piles, and pizza weeks, and movie nights where they watched his favorites and actually engaged with them. He missed karaoke and DDR and biweekly Powerpoint nights where he deliberately picked the most moronic topic to rant about like a madman, just to revel in the sound of Leo shrieking with laughter.
And God, he missed S.H.E.L.L.D.O.N, so so much. Something had broken in him when he’d found his AI chip in the rubble, unsalvageable. Something about the grief of it all had made everything feel worthless. Even if he yearned for it—that didn’t really matter anymore, did it? It was gone.)
