You know better than to open suspicious boxes of unknown origin. This could be filled with a toxin. This could hold a box-sized cannibal goblin. This could explode the moment he cuts it open.

    Bernard hikes his shirt collar up over his nose, grabs a knife (for self defense as well as practical use), and just sends a quick prayer to Dionysus that this chaos manifests in some way other than an explosive, because he doesn’t really have a way to protect himself from a bomb. Then he cuts the box open.
