    “Oh, there goes another one.” Nie Huaisang mentions with a sigh, snapping his fan open and gently fanning himself.

    “What do you mean? Do you know what’s going on?” Wei Wuxian asks, his gaze still on Lan Zhan and the person. They wore the Lan sect robes, so maybe they were talking about a night hunt, but if that were the case why did Lan Zhan look so… uncomfortable?

    “You may not know this, Wei-Xiong, but Lan Zhan receives a lot of courting gifts when The Cloud Recesses invites other clans for the lectures every year.”

     

    Or, after finding out Lan Zhan gets courting gifts, Wei Wuxian decides to his own gift.

    The Sunshot Campaign was losing. It was only a matter of time before Wen Ruohan beat them into submission. There were rumours surrounding a force in Yiling that could potentially turn the tide. The place was taken from the Wen early in the war but no one knows by whom, known only as the 'Yiling Patriarch'. All forces that the Wen have sent to try and retake Yiling have been destroyed entirely. If he allied with the campaign then it could potentially turn the tide of the war. A messenger was sent to him asking what he wants in exchange for an alliance.

    The response came back: the heir of one of the Great Sects in marriage. For the war to be won, someone must be sacrificed.

    Taking a deep breath he straightened his shoulders and tilted his chin up slightly in determination, “I will do it.”

    The arguing continued and Lan Wangji frowned as it seemed that no one had heard him, until his eyes met his brother’s and saw that his face had gone white with shock.

    Nie Mingjue looked between them, “What was that, Wangji?”

    “I said, I will do it.” Lan Wangji repeated, gripping so tightly onto Bichen that his knuckles went white.
