“Test successful," the Pathologist says. Theo beams as the Geneticist pats his knee and hands him some water. Other kids have soccer trophies and pizza parties. Theo thinks that as long as he can keep winning, what he has here is better.
Or, Theo and pride have a very complicated relationship. It comes with growing up around three evil scientists who like to poke you around with scalpels. It haunts him throughout the years, sticking to the edges of his decisions as he wrangles with what it means to be proud of himself. Surprisingly, the McCall pack has several hands to offer along the way.

Theo’s relationship with the older pack members was tentative at best, riddled with snide comments and wary looks, but he had to be grateful for his genetically-manufactured, chimeral nature, because a stab wound to the liver would have killed Stiles within minutes, whether the human hated him or not.
He had seen, in brief flashes, Stiles’s hand rubbing over the very place the knife would have entered his gut.

Theo's face is almost unrecognisable. Blood covers the entire right side, and the left boasts a black eye and several bruises, red trickling from the side of his mouth. Despite it all, a slow, tired smile curls Theo's lips upwards, and the flames in Liam's throat take on a strange, aching glow.
"Why isn't he healing?" Liam finds himself asking, almost frantic. "What did they do to him?"
"More importantly, why?" asks Malia, and for some reason, it makes Liam want to scream. "Why would they torture him when he would have easily told them everything they need to know?"
"Unless he didn't," Scott says quietly, and the air turns heavy; stifling.

Think six months of stabbing pain from the trocar left behind in his chest cavity. Think mercury poisoning headaches. Think a lifetime of scalpels. Think hurting and healing and hurting and healing and never quite putting everything back in its right place.
This story would be so much easier to tell if his body didn’t have to be in it.

Sophie hears the report, but she’s staring at her patient. Nightwing, the fucking protector of Bludhaven, is the one struggling for breath in the ER bed. She hears the paramedic add, “he doesn’t want us to take off the mask,” as she hooks up the ECG leads and loops a blood pressure cuff around his arm. Somebody cuts his suit straight down the chest, baring it to the room.
A blood pressure that makes her stomach flip pops up on the monitor just as the doc starts discussing if they need to intubate. Somebody’s asking where x-ray is. ER techs are lined up outside the door, hovering in case they’re going to need compressions.
