In this story, Martha Jones is almost the same character we know—except for a few crucial differences: she battles depression, is socially isolated, and constantly struggles with herself.
Here, Martha is a "real doctor" written as a kind of "painkiller" for the Doctor. She was designed to be an "easy target," deliberately written to be disliked by both the Doctor and the audience. Her depression, which could have been a deep and sensitive character arc, is instead handled superficially in this fic—something I aim to explore more thoroughly, exposing the narrative negligence.
The original storyline has been rewritten: there is self-sabotage, a toxic relationship with oneself, devaluation, and self-deprecation.
