“How are you so lovely, Ranboo?” Tubbo murmurs. “You’re so lovely. You’re so lovely.”
Were Tubbo not broken and malformed, these words would be meant for comfort. Comfort, however, doesn’t come easily to Tubbo. It stays lodged in a forgotten corner of his chest with all the other missing pieces of him. His platitudes are empty; the words are robotic. The urge to make someone beloved feel better, because it hurts to see them in pain ― it just isn’t there.
He cares for Ranboo enough to push away the dispassion and try, anyway. “You’re so lovely,” he repeats, and it’s not really a comfort, but a statement.
It almost feels like enough.

If Hunter’s learned anything from his time at the Owl House, it’s that it’s okay to ask for help—it’s okay to not understand things, and it’s okay if you don’t always do them right. He reminds himself this, takes a deep breath, and says:

henry is scared, tommy tells him, in a very small voice that doesn’t at all fit the 6’3” boy who’s curled into his cow’s side. henry has been brought back to life, and had only friend as company in the time he’d been trapped in that stupid fucking bunker; his head is all fucked-up now, broken in all the wrong places and pieced back together in all the wrong ways.
maybe henry just wants to be cared for, for once in his life, even if he’ll never say it aloud—because henry is a cow, of course, and cows can’t speak english.
henry doesn’t die that second time, and tommy finds the best way to ask for what he needs is without actually doing that at all. ranboo is just trying his best.
