Summary
When Charles Xavier moves to London and buys a house with his boyfriend Warren, he thinks his life is finally coming together in a way that everyone, including himself, has always expected. Erik Lehnsherr, on the other hand, is struggling to keep his life together after his recent divorce, now having to raise his three-year-old by himself. Neither is prepared to meet at work or, in fact, ever again: they have met before, now nearly ten years ago, when they conducted a passionate love affair that was over before it even began. Yet their attraction is still undeniable, and as Erik asks Charles out for a drink, Charles somehow forgets to mention that he's already seeing someone.

Erik shivers, squeezing his eyes shut as he feels Charles start to rummage around in his head again. It's nothing that Erik would notice if Charles hadn't spent so much of the last few weeks in and out of Erik's head, or if Charles was trying to sneak. It's a twitch, an intrusive thought (his own name, laden with purpose), and possibly the way his breath snags in his throat—but that may just be Erik.

Erik doesn’t have much patience for the winter holidays. Everyone is filled with a consumerist desire to buy truck-fulls of presents and decorations and pretend that lying to children is a practice only evil men don’t participate in. Erik never much cared for the nostalgia towards the awful weather or the unavoidable ‘Merry Christmas’ greetings.
Years ago, Charles would call him a grinch and tease him into enjoying the idea of Secret Santa. Nowadays, he has a five year old daughter that climbs onto his lap and tells him with big, pleading brown eyes that killing Mr. Xavier is not something he should do.

Fourteen cities half as many days, and the shooting pain behind Charles’s eye is constant now. After a few initial successes in recruiting more mutants for their team, he and Erik are now getting the proverbial door slammed in their faces, over and over.
Charles does not enjoy travel. Too many new minds every day, too many emotions pressing in around him, smothering his own thoughts, and he feels like the little Dutch boy with his finger in the dyke. If he abandons his post, the flood of psychic energy would come bursting through his skull, and he would drown. Or go mad.

The montage of Charles & Erik recruiting mutants bringing 'couple searching for a third in their marriage' energy and honestly their whole dynamic in that movie lives eternally rent free in my head. In my mind this happens directly after Hugh jackman's amazing Cameo in first class.
