"The two of you are mates," Elzora concluded.
Jim smiled, tightly. It would not be the first time mistranslations had led to the two of them pretending to be married. The first few times they had attempted to deny it but then there had been Varnaac II whose people had been so offended they'd refused to come to the negotiations table until Jim and Spock had told them they were married and simply wished to keep it secret. After that they had thought it better to not to depute the assumption. "Yes, we are."

Reaching for him was as easy as breathing— or at least it had been. Now the old habit did nothing but prod at the wound that had once been his bond with Spock. Bones had chastised him for not letting it heal more times than he could count in the months since Spock's death and revival.
In truth, Jim did not want it to heal, he did not want to lose the one tangible reminder of what he and Spock had once been. Even if that reminder meant suffer migraines more often than not.

Spock, who doesn't believe in such unfounded theories— and certainly not in ghosts— sees no harm in accompanying Kirk, if for no reason other than to protect him from his own imagination.

"Of course, their joining is something of an optical illusion," the ambassador had told him earlier that evening. "We understand the science. But still, in our culture, this binary eclipse is a once-in-a-lifetime occurrence, a magical time when anything can happen. This will be a night of miracles and surprises."
Kirk can almost feel it; the air is crackling with promise. On this sacred night on an alien world, anything is possible.
Or it would be, if Spock had not already left the party.

At the ages of six and seven, Jim and Spock have accidentally formed an unbreakable t'hy'la bond. This is not a problem at all in Jim's opinion. He loves being mind-married to Spock, which is a fact he will share with anyone who will listen.
However, no one seems to take their bond seriously.5 times people didn't believe Jim was married, and 1 time someone accepted it right away.
