Summary
Connor Murphy hated his ancestry. His father was half human and half giant. How that worked, Connor was afraid to ask. It was a long history of half human and half giant, so most of his relatives were above height average and had a ferocious appetite. Connor’s mother on the other was from a direct line of gorgons. His mother hadn’t inherited the stone eyes, but she did have the snake hair and scaly skin. Connor’s sister took all the luck in the gene pool. She only inherited their mother’s skin and a small pair of wings that were easy to hide. Connor on the other hand seemed to have inherited his father’s awkward height and three out of five gorgons traits; stone eyes, snake hair, and scaly skin. He was just thankful he didn’t have tusks.
Or: Connor finally meets people who aren't scared of him.

Lies slipped from his mouth all too easily and long sleeves keep late nights hidden.
Connor's only hope for happiness was his soulmate. That little symbol on his arm was everything to him and he desperately pleaded to meet them soon. But his mark was on his bicep. Even if his soulmate was around, they would never see the mark. Connor was doomed.

There's a vampire prince at school and Evan wasn't exactly pleased about it. Not only had the prince's presence caused the entire school to go ballistic, Evan was terrified of vampires! They were horrifying creatures, sucking the blood right out of live animals. What kind of monster did that? Evan was going to stay away from this vampire prince. Far, far away. His mother had told him enough stories for him to know that vampires were no good.
But a new student threatened to change Evan's entire view.

After falling from the tree didn't do the trick, Evan begins to seek out another solution. A partner. Peer pressure to get the job done. He spends several weeks trolling a website with a section called Suicide Partners after breaking his arm. He finds a potential match in someone else who is looking to make sure they actually pull the trigger this time (metaphorically speaking).
Three guesses whose message Evan responds to.
It's Connor's, of course.

The penny drops, and Connor's jaw drops too, which would be funny in any other situation. He flushes bright red, and the tip of his tongue darts out to wet his lips.
"Wow," he breathes, "Wow, um. Yeah. OK. Yes."
(Or: Evan decides he's ready for more in his relationship with Connor.)

But it’s like the moment he settles into bed and gets comfy, wrapping himself up in that plush blanket Evan got him for his birthday a couple of years back even though it makes him just a little bit sweaty, everything good that’s happened today just… doesn’t even matter anymore. It’s like someone turned a switch in his brain and now he’s some big stupid sad robot who doesn’t know what happiness is like.
Okay, that’s an exaggeration. But it feels true.
