"Stay," Rumi growls to Zoey, a command laced with so much power that the maknae would be hopeless to disobey it.
The half-demon saunters across the room until she's toe to toe with Mira, who holds her ground at the approach. Rumi stops half an inch away from their noses touching, and she hates that she has to tilt her head upwards to look the other alpha in the eye.
"Mira," she manages to get out while holding herself back from just taking what she wants. "Do not mess with me right now."
"Why not?"
Rumi snarls, but doesn't touch. "Because I will break you."
Mira just smirks again. "You're welcome to try, pup."

She liked *them*. Both. Equally. In different ways that bent toward the same unbearable center.
And they were *dating* each other.
The thought struck like a physical blow, knocking her breath out from the inside. Of course they were. Of course they had chosen each other; they fit, they made sense, they were a pair that moved like they’d been in love for years.
Where was Rumi supposed to go with a feeling this big when the space she wanted was already occupied? The shame of it rose hot—too late, too much, too obvious. It curdled into something bitter she didn’t recognize in herself.
“You like Zoey...and Zoey likes *you*.” The words left her tasting ash. “There is no space for me...not like that.”
The sentence trembled in the air between them, thin as glass. And then it shattered. Rumi couldn’t handle it.
“What?” Mira’s alarm was immediate, genuine; she leaned in like proximity could stop a misunderstanding from hardening into a fact. “Rumi that’s no—”

Rumi shrugs, feeling raw and exposed in the way she always does after kneeling for them.
She considers the question: she just wasn’t brought up that way. There was never any need for praise or affirmation as a form of encouragement. Not when there were other forms so readily available – imminent choking forms, creeping steadily across her body.

Water runs as she turns the handle of the faucet, palms cupping together to gather water and splash on her face. Rumi breathes in deeply as she takes a moment to calm down. She’s patting her face dry when she feels it—a weight in her core, something there… between her legs where just a moment ago there was nothing.
“Don’t tell me…” Rumi starts as she stares at her crotch, confusion and a hint of trepidation washing over her as she looks at the seam of her pants like it’s going to sprout a demon mouth and eat her face. Her hand fumbles for her phone, fingers tapping erratically until the calendar app opens up. Her eyes scan the rows of weeks before settling on the notification of their vacation day. Her mouth moves silently, counting the days of the last full moon.
And then Rumi stops, eyes shaking as they hone in on today’s date. The full moon began at midnight.
She squeezes her eyes shut, stifling a groan as she comes to a realization.
Her demon rut has arrived.

Zoey loves seeing Rumi like this. When Rumi lifts her chin, a smirk pulling at her lips, it’s like she’s grown three inches and the aura that burns around her is pure power.

Mira’s thumb stilled on the screen. She looked up, slow. “…What?”
Zoey’s hands twisted in her lap. “Like—not open relationships. Just… not just one person. Have you ever thought about being with more than one person and it still being okay?”
She wasn’t looking at Mira. Her voice was tight, like it hurt to speak. Mira watched her with a furrowed brow, still quiet.
“I feel so guilty all the time. Because I love you, Mira. I love you, and this doesn’t change that, but I see her and I want to make her smile and I want her to hold my hand and I think she’s beautiful and weird and sweet and I—”
She finally looked up, tears shining in her eyes.
“I think I ruined us. And I’m so sorry.”
Mira just stared at her. Wide-eyed. Silent.
Zoey’s heart dropped. “Say something.”
Mira exhaled like she’d been holding her breath for a month.
Then she visibly deflated—shoulders dropping, head tilting back against the wall—and let out a quiet, choked laugh.
“…Oh thank god.”

Zoey stares. Mira breathes, and the gok-do on the floor blinks once, twice, before bursting into sparks and disappearing entirely.
