Sonic’s hips twitch upwards as he speaks, breath hitching—an unhelpable movement—as the rolling of his shoulder and the consequent shift in the angling of his wrist, directs the water jet into ramming at a particularly good spot. He nearly buckles under the surprise onslaught. Nearly. He doesn't, however; quick to catch himself. Sonic strains to lock himself in that position, to not lose it.
With his head thrown back, he doggedly chases his high irregardless of the elephant in the room.
In other words, I just want an excuse to write them being somft™ and Shadow angrily simping for Sonic against his will…or so he’d claim lol.

Summary
It's been 10 years since Sonic last saw Shadow, and in that decade, life had not been kind. He's stumbling through adulthood with no sense of direction or purpose, crumbling under the existential dread of aging, and to top it off, is suffering through an exhausting divorce process. Just as his whole world seems to be collapsing around him, however, an old friend returns... And might just be the lifeline he didn't realise he needed.
Now Sonic is having to navigate adulthood, heartbreak, grief and whatever these new (or maybe old) feelings are for his ex-rival. The strangest part is that Shadow seems to be the stable, emotionally competent one. What he doesn't know is that shadow is hiding a secret of his own- Ten years of feelings that he thought he'd let go of threatening to return.
This is a future-set Sonadow slow -burn where Sonic and Shadow reconnect after a decade of no contact. A mix of hurt/comfort, slice-of-life, humour, drama, fluff and spice (eventually). Themes include grief, romance, friendship, aging panic, unconditional love/care, and a flipped dynamic- Sonic is the one falling apart, and Shadow is the one who’s already healed.

That is, until he comes home from a long day working for G.U.N. and strange things start happening in his apartment. Lights flicker, objects move on their own, and the air grows colder by the minute. At first, he brushes it off—until the haunting becomes personal. Shadow is forced to question what’s real, and whether Sonic’s disappearance has anything to do with the paranormal presence now targeting him. “Hello?” A deep and gravelly voice shocked him out of his thoughts, causing him almost to drop his phone in surprise.
“Shadow!” Sonic exclaimed, relieved that the other hedgehog had picked up.“...” There was silence on the other end of the line for a moment before the other asked: “...Sonic? Is that you? What are you doing calling me at, ugh, 5am??” Sonic picked up on shuffling noises and assumed Shadow had gotten out of bed. “Actually- why are you calling me at all, we haven’t spoken outside of anniversaries in uh, fuck, how long’s been, like, ten years? …I didn’t forget anything…right?”
Sonic rushed to reassure him after hearing the uncertainty in the other’s voice, that was a sore subject for both of them; “No! No, you didn’t forget anything, it’s uhh,” and here’s where Sonic hesitated, he wasn’t exactly sure on how to explain the situation to Shadow. “It’s something else, I-” Sonic felt his eyes start to wander over to what—or rather who—was the catalyst for his sudden frantic 5am call to his old rival.
“Spit it out faker,” Shadow said, sounding more awake now.
“I found Silver."
“...oh shit.”
