Summary
“The compass,” he starts. “It’s been moving differently. It doesn’t work as well anymore.”
Niklaus leans forward greedily. “Where is it pointing to?”
Chip stays silent.
“Let me rephrase myself,” says Niklaus. “Who is it pointing to?”
A coral crown, a wide grin, the arc of a broadsword slicing through air—
“Gill,” Chip rasps out, fingernails digging white crescents into the backs of his hands. “It’s pointing to Gillion.”-
Caught at the crossroads of desire, Chip has his mind set on finding the Black Rose pirates. But his heart tells a different story, and when he’s trapped in a time loop that resets upon Gillion's death, he’ll be forced to reckon with his own feelings — one way or another.

Summary
Part of him really just wanted to melt into the floor and stop existing, that way he didn’t have to deal with this issue at all. But alas, he can not.
Alright, let’s run through this one more time, really pin down the problem so that a solution is more obvious.
OR:
The James family gets an invite to a fancy event, and Chip, desperate for a plus one (to show up his sister), turns to his roommate, Gillion.
It’s just as stupid as literally every other fake dating au but I’m actually so excited so

Summary
Cellbit quickly cuts him off, “What’s your name, if you don’t mind me asking? I feel like it’s only fair, since you apparently know so much about me.”
The guy schools his expression into something more neutral, but Cellbit can tell he’s just dying to be rude- he probably would’ve already had some sort of smart ass response if they weren’t currently in a classroom surrounded by other parents. Instead, the man responds, “My name’s Roier. My son’s name is Bobby, in case you were wondering that, too.”
Cellbit definitely was wondering, so he can tell Richarlyson which kid to stay away from.
---
Or: When Cellbit overhears another dad criticizing his son during a little league game, he promises to never interact with that asshole or his son ever again. Too bad Richarlyson doesn't feel the same, since said asshole's son ends up becoming his best friend. (Enemies-to-Lovers!AU)

Summary
The power fluctuated, lights going out. Phil was lying on the floor, staring at the ceiling, but his eyes might as well have been closed. The darkness was so complete it was like it clasped its fingers in his, breathed through his throat-- and then, slowly, he became aware of a shift on the other side of the glass. Faint, distant movement. A soft pulse of light, pinkish-red mingled with off-white, gentle bioluminescent flickers in the engulfing blackness. Fear twisted so far around that it turned to wonder.
He thought the lights were multiple creatures close together, at first. Then the emergency lights hummed back on, and the lights on the other side suddenly resolved into a being, a huge one with a long snaking tail and brightness down its side and shoulders and flowing hair and was that a goddamn fucking mer--
The mer reeled back and disappeared into the gloom. Phil stared after it and said blankly, forgetting it was only a plush crow listening: "What the actual fuck."

Summary
The visitor had wetness on his face. The weapon remembered water as vaguely as he did food, but he thought that might be water coming from the visitor.
No one ever answered when he said words. But the visitor had spoken first, so maybe he would speak again in the weapon’s direction. “What’s captured?”
The visitor twisted his face. That was an angry expression, the weapon was pretty sure. And anger was being upset, but hotter. A burning weight in the chest, tighter breathing.
“Why do you want to know?” he demanded. “You don’t— you can’t picture what a key is, you don’t know what swords are— you can’t even give me a weapon, you have no concept of them!”
