Summary
The memory comes back to the forefront. After three weeks of silence, G.U.N and the Resistance came to an agreement and decided to ask for the public's help in hopes of a tip on where he'd been taken. Without Sonic, G.U.N had faltered behind even with Team Dark on task. He slams the file shut immediately, other important documents strewing out in the process. A cocktail of emotions floods his mind. Emotions he doesn't have time to analyze or focus on. The hybrid forces himself to take a breath, in and out, the ringing in his ears is a stark similarity of the gunshot ringing out. A reminder of yet another failure attached to his name.
Like a sick joke, the blue fool in the photo is smiling at him, the light radiating from the photo contrasts Shadow in ways more than one. Freedom in light, trapped in shadows. There's a reason Sonic is refereed to as the Light. A savior.
The laminated paper crumbles in his grip.
Or: After being tricked by an illusion of Maria, Shadow is rescued and nothing bad happens!

“The Pokemon World Tournament is a battle festival that happens once every two years. This time, in roughly a month’s time, Alola has the chance to organize it. Now, can someone tell me what makes the Tournament special? And why it may be weird that Alola’s organizing it?”
Lillie put her hand up. Professor Kukui nodded at her. “In contrary to the majority of other battle festivals, only those who are League Associates can be chosen to compete.”
“Exactly! Now, for my second question?”
“Alola doesn’t have a League,” Kiawe hummed. “There are no Associates here. So if it’s happening in Alola, who is going to be chosen to compete from here, and how?”
Ash remembered Shirona talking about it, during one of the first times they'd met. When he told her his name she recognized him as Red's little brother and started talking about a Tournament that happened a few years back in Unova, and how his oldest brother was chosen as one of the contestants. That it was the last time she saw Red before his disappearance.
or; The League's biennial tournament is in Alola this time, bringing in a lot of trainers from various regions. That includes Ash's family – for better or worse.

He admitted with surprising honesty. Miles listened with rapt attention. "No one really knew me so it was easy to just, you know, be myself." He found himself gazing back out into the streets, "It was kinda lonely."
"Sonic..."
He looks back down at the fox, a cheeky grin on his face, "It was only lonely until I met a fox that changed my life forever."
