Viktor, a world-renowned astronomer, and the revolutionary microbiology researcher Jayce Talis are falling in love. But there’s a slight complication:
Jayce pinches the bridge of his nose, and sighs, and pushes through the nerves. “You know how if I think about space, I panic?”
“Yes,” Viktor says, nodding. “I am aware.”
“And you know how if you think about microbes, you panic?” Jayce prods.
Viktor’s expression flickers. “Two for two.”

It’s a young man, absolutely filthy, his face caked with blood and his clothes torn in places that turn Jayce’s stomach. He blinks back from the light that floods in, and before he can react any further Jayce is on his knees, reaching for the cable ties around his wrists, saying, “It’s okay, you’re safe now, I’ve got you-”
“Jayce?”
And Jayce, hand halfway to the pocket knife on his belt, freezes. Takes another look at the man. And whispers, “Viktor?”
Jayce is a crisis interventionist for the Piltover Police Department. One night, while defusing a hostage situation, he discovers one of the hostages is someone he knows.

“I would like a movie Snowdown, one day,” Viktor says, eyes bright but mouth almost entirely obscured by the maroon scarf Ximena had knit for him two winters previously. “Something romantic.”
Jayce snorts. “You want to leave your big city partner for a rugged man in some quaint small town?”
“Maybe I want to be the rugged local,” Viktor whines, leaning his shoulder further into Jayce’s as they watch an ice skater fumble from the comfort of their nearby bench. “Maybe I want to kiss you under a tree. With the lights. And snow.”

Summary

Jayce was an artist once. He was young and lively, wooing patrons with his impressive works and making a name for himself under the alias "Giopara." But that was long ago, back when the world was still his. Five years have passed, he's grown older, life has changed, and he refuses to pick up a brush.
Viktor is a writer -- in theory. In practice, he hasn't written a word of his manuscript in years, and not for lack of trying. He's reached a standstill, or a lull if you will. His character, who he has based off himself, will achieve great things, but will he always live in the shadow of his creation?

It should not matter. They’re not even a year in. They don’t share an apartment. They’ve barely begun. But sometimes, when Jayce is in the bath and reading aloud with no awareness of his volume, Viktor forget’s that they don’t. The line between yours and mine is already smudged beyond recovery. They share lab keys and research grants and too many nights that blur into dawn. Doctoral candidates with matching lanyards and no time for office hours. Jayce teaches part of a seminar he half-prepares in Viktor's bed. Viktor models quantum diffusion systems at 3 a.m with Jayce’s hand buried in his hair, breath warm at his nape.
They orbit each other like binaries – two distinct bodies locked in shared momentum, gravity-born and holy in their tether. And still, it’s not enough.
Because skin is finite. Desire, however, obeys no such law.

Summary
He walks toward Jayce, driven by a thousand hands on his back. Of people in that room, of ghosts, of his own mother. All pushing him toward Jayce and toward a future that metamorphosizes with every step he takes. Viktor can feel the winds shift and part of his story is wiped clean, unwritten by his own actions that night.
Viktor doesn’t look back. He allows Jayce to open the door for him, and steps out into the evening. The sunset is vibrant, gold and pink and explosive.
Feeling unaccepted by Piltover in the wake of his 28th birthday, Viktor returns to the Undercity for an annual festival to reconcile who he is with where he came from.
Things go south.
