He didn’t remember, in his love-drunk haze, that they hadn’t had THAT conversation yet. The one where Percy admitted how he had been hers from the first time he saw her. That was something he had meant to say in a moment of passion, some attempt at romanticizing the decidedly un-romantic circumstances of their past years together. He did not mean to say it now.

Summary
Miss Vex'ahlia Vessar has put off her debut to the ton for as long as she could, but this season, it doesn't seem like she has a choice. Struggling with a reputation as one of the bastard twins of Viscount Vessar, she is both desperate to fit into society and dreading the prospect of what debuting means. She most certainly doesn't want to get married to someone she hates, but can't ever see herself falling for any member of the ton with their cruelty and privilege. Then comes Duke Percival de Rolo- and suddenly, Vex'ahlia's debut season is sure to be an interesting one.

It shouldn't hurt. It shouldn't.
It was stupid, really. Shouldn't have even mattered. It was a stupid show that Tommy wasn’t even in tonight, he was stage managing. For fucks sake, Mr. Craft had seen the show the week before when Tommy was performing. There was no reason for this to hurt.
But that didn’t stop the sinking pit in Tommy’s stomach, the burning behind his eyes he couldn’t seem to control, the way his breath caught in his chest.

He doesn’t know why he calls Vex. He barely sees the numbers as his fingers skitter across the screen. The light of his phone makes his eyes ache. There’s a tremor in his thumbs and he punches in one zero too many.
“Percy it’s four am- whatever is the matter?”Her voice is sharp with annoyance or worry and gravelly with sleep. He tries to breathe but someone has filled his lungs with lead.
“Cassandra is alive. Vex'ahlia - “ he thinks he imagines the catch in her breath “- Vex'ahlia, my sister is alive.”
