Instinct urges him to push, to break free, to move and explore and survive. He cracks through the slimy shell of his egg, and he only has a few spare moments to appreciate the wet, comforting warmth cradling his fragile little body before he's violently expelled onto a hard surface several meters below.

Hayden feels like a complete asshole, all of a sudden. There’s just been too much going on to even think about Shane’s mystery girlfriend. “Shit, I should probably, like, call her, or something? I don’t know this girl at all, but Shane’s been obsessed with her for years. If she was watching the game, she would have seen him get hurt.”
“You don’t need to call her,” Rozanov says, and when Hayden glances at him, he still looks fucking miserable but now he’s rolling his eyes, a much more familiar expression of disdain on his face. “She’s sitting right here.”

Norman is taken so offguard, he exclaims, “Boyfriend tee?!” out loud in the otherwise quiet of their room.
Yeah! Skip cheerfully replies. Marge says that’s what it’s called when you wear the shirt of someone you like.
“No,” he says. “It’s only a boyfriend tee if you’re my boyfriend, and you’re not.”
The body halts halfway through putting on a pair of jeans, their knee raised awkwardly.
“I’m not?” Skip asks, out loud now too. He has the audacity to sound forlorn about it, like he and Norman discussed this at any point at all.
“No?” Norman replies. “Did you ask me out? Did we say we were dating? Did we have any sort of conversation about it?”
“But…” Skip replies, pouting down at their jeans. Norman mentally rolls his eyes and takes back control so he can continue putting on their pants.

Why am I not taken apart in the Amphereon, or walking as one of the Naughtomata, or lining the throat of that vile beast?”

Olethra pouts. “Fine.”
Torse is barely paying attention to her. There is the palest, prettiest red flush across the bridge of Maxwell's nose, bringing attention to a small white scar on it. He doesn't know the rules that Marya is talking about, but doesn't much care, too distracted by following the pink curve of Maxwell's ears with his gaze, the way his brown-black lashes frame large dark eyes.
