The chaos and chatter instantly shifted to applause.
Everyone—photographers, stylists, publicists—stopped what they were doing, setting down their cameras, laptops, and phones to clap.
“Oh… it’s him,”
Casper said, squinting toward the entrance where the light was flaring brightest.
He didn’t glance at them young models, nor at the people clapping for him. Without a word, he walked past, the British model who had entered with him following closely behind. They disappeared together into the depths of the room.

• THEN jannik posted the exact same glove in his pocket
• they’re doing some sort of winter meals-together-every-night thing

Carlos moans when Jannik kisses him harder. He backs Carlos into the kitchen counter and swipes his tongue over his bottom lip. His hand sneaks onto Carlos’s abs and he groans at the feel of his solid muscles flexing under his touch. “I love your body.”

Summary
Jannik hits a clean shot, a lashing forehand that lands the ball deep in the ad court, grazing the line and lifting a wisp of white off the grass. The kick of the topspin dizzies the ball into the air. Carlos, out of position, jumps and lunges toward it, throwing all of his weight forward.
Jannik can tell he’s going to miss. He’s already turning to his team, one fist raised, when the ball whizzes past Carlos’s outstretched racket.
He doesn’t see Carlos land. He doesn’t see him collapse into the dirt.
He hears a crack, like a heavy tree branch, snapping in a windstorm.
He only looks back when Carlos starts screaming.

“Is that what we’re talking about?” Carlos asks, quiet in the face of Jannik’s rage. But there’s something in his eyes, something equal parts alluring and afraid, like maybe Carlos is standing on some precipice Jannik can’t quite see still. “Winning?”
“Isn’t that all there is?” Jannik chuckles, but it’s empty even to his own ears.
“If that’s what you want,” Carlos says. It’s blank, as if Jannik is in control. As if he was in control all along, and Carlos isn’t the one who came all this way just to taunt him. “If that’s all you want here, then you’re right. Maybe cold and distant is the way to go.”
or, Jannik has lost the match, but when Carlos shows up to his hotel room the next day, he finds out there is more than one way to win.

“Jannik?” he hears a voice call from the entrance of the hotel, and suddenly all his embarrassment washes away. He looks at Hannah in frozen horror as he hears footsteps approaching.
This isn’t how he’d wanted this to happen at all. He wasn’t supposed to find him here. They were supposed to be in private, so that Jannik might find the words to explain why he hasn’t called, or texted, much less replied to any of Carlos’s attempts at communicating since that night… He was supposed to have time to figure out how to explain why the phone had seemed so heavy, why he hadn’t been able to shoulder anyone’s affection, and barely tolerated his parents’ efforts to comfort him.
Instead, he turns around in a hotel lobby full of people who know him, and finds Carlos standing there, confusion and doubt painted on his face. And Jannik’s stomach sinks.
“Carlos, hi,” Jannik murmurs.
Or, after their night in Paris, Jannik stopped communicating with Carlos. Now he has lost again, and he can't stay away. Carlos proves forgiving.

“Can I kiss you?” Jannik asks, the question soft, almost uncertain, a tentative smile on his lips. Carlos’s heart flutters, a wild, helpless thing. It always does, when Jannik asks questions like that. As if he thinks Carlos would ever say no - would ever deny Jannik anything, outside a championship title. Carlos nods, breathless, lips parted. He thinks again about those movies he loves so much - how he will forever think of Jannik’s lips and the expensive leather of the seat cradling his body any time he watches those films.
Carlos visits Jannik in Monte Carlo during the off season.
