Summary
'Guillermo had heard that going through days with little sleep, could make you start to hallucinate. That or his chocolate espresso bean buzz, heat exhaustion, or a mixture of all combined, were finally catching up with him.
Maybe he just needed new glasses.
Either way, he was clearly imagining Nandor in modern clothing, in bright, broad daylight, casually browsing vegetables in the supermarket.'

Summary
Nandor had found the mark to be irritating, useless and cloying. He’d had moments where he’d just wanted to scratch it off.
Hunting for witches had become the a popular pastime for humans, alongside chicken fights and public hangings, had brought about a secondary interest for humans, in slaying vampires.
He finds that the mark seems to burn whenever they are near, like his arm has been brushed with holy water. He seems to be the only one with this skill, narrowly avoiding some close calls. Others aren’t so lucky.
He might be lonely. He tries not to think about it.

Summary
Guillermo hadn’t really thought of vampires being affected by weather, apart from the sun of course. You didn’t exactly see images of vampires pummelled by the weather, in movies or books. You sort of imagined things like snow or rain slipping off them, like age and time.
Nandor too, was agitated and wet with rain. His hair had come loose, and it had become slightly wavier wet, damp strands clinging to his forehead. Only his clothes weren’t as damp, and that was due to how thick they were.
“Master, couldn’t you just fly back home?”

Summary
Connor thought he knew he was alive.
Then, Hank had touched him. And it was like he hadn't been aware he had hands. Like he hadn’t had skin, it was near newly made; stitched together under Hank’s fingers, it was practically radiating off him.

Summary
This entire experience had made him feel, well, lacklustre next to Hank. Hank liked such a wide range of things earnestly, and most of the things Connor found he liked - he had formed through Hank.
Sometimes he worried he was still lying to himself, still pretending to like the things he liked to blend in, to act human.

Summary
“Henry?”
Hans has closed his eyes, and the way he’s nuzzling Henry’s chest, there is no telling his expression.
“What?”
“When you carried me out of Talmberg. Did you touch my arse?”
-------
On the way back from a hunt, Hans and Henry take a break for the evening. Just one night, the two of them, a couple of drinks and the stars. Only Hans wasn't supposed to down an entire bottle of Schnapps on an empty stomach, and does he really mean all the filthy things he is saying?
Confused, Henry picks an intelligent solution: disappear for a few days, have a think, come back and one up Hans at drunken confessions. And then some.

Summary
"But I'm not just asking for myself," Hans continued, quieter. "If people start to wonder about the lack of an heir, it won't be me they turn on, we both know that. Jitka's reputation—she'll be worse than ruined when the gossip starts to come."
Or, when the heir to Rattay still can't sire a child one year into marriage, he comes begging for Henry's help. Henry thinks the task is simple, if insane: shoot a few loads in Jitka, then make like the wind so nobody suspects him.
Unfortunately for Hans, nothing is nearly ever so simple.

Summary
“There.” Henry swallows through the thickness once again. In an attempt to bring about some levity, Henry teases, “You look pretty as any bride.”
Hans laughs wetly, something more of a spit than humor. He shakes his head and attempts to run his fingers through his locks but his hand pauses at the first touch of the chain. Bringing his own hand to his gaze, Hans’ mood fizzles, like barely there sparks bowing to a downpour. “Rather be your bride than her groom,” Hans clenches his hand into a fist and Henry watches the well-kept nails threaten to bleed the soft skin of his palm. As if Hans is on his knees seeking forgiveness for his confession, bleeding and paying his way into Heaven’s gates.
