Summary
It’s my turn to wear a boyfriend tee to-unit, Skip says.
Norman is taken so offguard, he exclaims, “Boyfriend tee?!” out loud in the otherwise quiet of their room.
Yeah! Skip cheerfully replies. Marge says that’s what it’s called when you wear the shirt of someone you like.
“No,” he says. “It’s only a boyfriend tee if you’re my boyfriend, and you’re not.”
The body halts halfway through putting on a pair of jeans, their knee raised awkwardly.
“I’m not?” Skip asks, out loud now too. He has the audacity to sound forlorn about it, like he and Norman discussed this at any point at all.
“No?” Norman replies. “Did you ask me out? Did we say we were dating? Did we have any sort of conversation about it?”
“But…” Skip replies, pouting down at their jeans. Norman mentally rolls his eyes and takes back control so he can continue putting on their pants.

Arthur laughs and huddles close to Lapin, grinning wildly. “Hey,” he says in an excited whisper, loudly hushed like they’re sharing secrets, “so you know how I'm a master of chronomancy and everyone you know is dead?”
Lapin blinks, his stomach dropping. “You said everyone I know is fine—that that was a quangled Calorum.”
“Yes! No, exactly!” Arthur replies, before Lapin’s sudden anxiety can mount too much. “Don’t worry, we fixed it. They’re not actually all dead.” He waves a hand airily, and Lapin tries not to be annoyed. (He only mostly succeeds.) “My bad. I was just going to offer to return you to your time of death, in your Calorum—the non-quangled, canon one, so to speak. Maybe you can do something different. Give yourself a fighting chance!”

Summary
Fabian pauses to look up at Goldenhoard, stopped in time. The balloon arch behind them is maybe a little trite, but it’s also maybe a little sweet. He’s never been to a school dance before, homeschooled as he was on his father's ship, and a part of him wonders if this is supposed to be a shared experience every high schooler has.
“It’s too bad we aren’t here to actually enjoy prom,” Fabian says. “Didn’t even have the time to dance or anything.”
“Do you… want to dance?” Gorgug asks, hesitantly.
Near the end of freshman year, in the shadow of a dragon paused mid-battle thanks to some miraculous chronomancy, Fabian and Gorgug slow dance at prom.
It still takes the better part of a decade for them to start dating.

“God, we’re too young to be talking like dads pushing forty.”
“I don’t know, I think I’m ready for a midlife crisis,” Kakashi said, squinting up into the trees to make sure his final trap was hidden. “I could buy a mint first edition collection of the whole Icha Icha series and pay Tenzou a lavish fee to build me an ostentatious bookcase for them all.”
“That’s your idea of a midlife crisis?” Iruka asked, raising an eyebrow and trying not to smile. “Expensive trashy books?”
“And of course I’d have an illicit affair with a younger man. Though since I’m not in my forties I’ll have to cap the age difference at five years tops.” He turned to Iruka as though only just realising something. “Say, you’re younger than me. How about it, want to have a passionate and forbidden liaison sometime?”
Iruka’s smile was breaking through. “If only you had a husband you could divorce for me. That would really bring an element of drama.”
“I would divorce my imaginary husband for you in a heartbeat, Iruka,” Kakashi said, laying a hand over his heart. “Our marriage was never going to work out anyway. We have so little in common – I’m real and he isn’t. It’s one of those divides that simply can’t be overcome.”
By now, Iruka was laughing. “You’re such a dork!” He smacked Kakashi lightly on the arm and then left his hand there, warm against the lowering evening temperature.

Gai sat up suddenly, his spine straight. “My rival. Do not tell me that you are,” here he lowered his voice to a quiet shout, “unyouthful in your most private moments? But you are so virile on the battlefield!”

“You know,” Iruka drawled, “you don’t have to do all that just to eat.” He mimed pulling down a mask. “I’m pretty sure I know what you look like under there.”
Kakashi froze, his hand in a bag of kaki no tane. “What?”
“Yeah,” Iruka continued. “I saw the bottom half of your face, back when we were kids, and now I’ve seen both eyes. I can fill in the blank in my head.”
Kakashi sat up from his relaxed sprawl on the floor. “What?” he said again. “Don’t do that!”
“It’s my memory, I’ll do what I want with it,” Iruka said. He closed his eyes and a drunk, dopey smile stretched across his face. “My, my, look at that,” he teased.
Kakashi made a choking noise and Iruka cracked an eye open. The other man sat across from him, hands covering the bottom half of his face as though his mask was suddenly see-through. “Nooo,” he cried.

There was a moment of silence and then Iruka burst out laughing, loud hoots in between high giggles. The longer it went on, the more Kakashi seemed to deflate. The last rays of the sun finally set over his shoulder.
“Hey, it’s not that funny.” Kakashi pouted.
Iruka wiped at his eyes, smiling. “I’m not laughing at you, exactly. It’s just, oh god my stomach,” he gasped, trying to catch his breath. “Did you just volunteer to be a jounin sensei by giving an impassioned speech about the beauty of rivalry and teamwork as the sun set behind you?”
Oh no, he had, hadn’t he? Kakashi looked around shiftily. “Don’t tell Gai.”
