Eddie’s head is spinning, needing to fix this and not knowing how. As usual, his mouth is miles ahead of his brain, words falling over themselves in their hurry to get out.
“I didn’t mean it like that. I was just — I mean, it is a little bit funny, right?” Eddie says. He’s sweating now and it’s sure as shit not just from the heat.
“Yep. I get it. It’s hilarious.” Steve’s tone is clipped as he gestures toward the door. “I’ll just go, and you two can laugh it up for the rest of the night, okay?”

“No.” Eddie’s voice is barely a whisper, so soft it’s almost swallowed in the quiet room. His eyes remain fixed on the ground, avoiding Steve’s gaze completely. He steps back, putting space between them, his fingers still curled tightly around the figurine.
“No, Steve. I don’t have time for that.” His voice catches. “We’re in the middle of a campaign that I’ve spent hours planning.” Eddie runs his hand through his hair, his fingers tangling in a knot. “I've got this new job, and the band, and I just don't have time to teach you. I don't have the time for you.”
