"Are you with your soulmate? Or are you waiting around for them like 'half the world'?" Adora uses air quotes to emphasize Catra's words. Adora can feel her palms sweat, thinking of how she'll feel if Catra says she has found her other half.
Catra shrugs, a picture of carelessness. "Nah. I haven't thought about my soul mark since it disappeared off me." The blasé way she says it makes Adora feel like that wasn't the whole truth.
Adora doesn't press. "It aches sometimes. Feels empty, without the soul mark." Adora admits in a quiet whisper staring down at the bar top. Catra absentmindedly rubs her left shoulder.
Adora looks up at Catra. Both of Catra's hands press down on the bar top. Adora takes a chance and slowly slides her hand next to Catra's, only their pinkies touching. The small touch feels like it vibrates through Adora's body.
"But I don't ache when I'm here with you." Adora shrugs apologetically like she knows she shouldn't say something so forward to a woman who is just trying to do her job.
OR
Adora doesn't find her soulmate by 30 and her soul mark disappears. The next week, she meets a bartender that turns her world on its head. Soul Mark AU.

The classroom is bright and colorful, the walls covered in color pencil and crayon drawings presumably done by kindergarten students. The bulletin boards are decorated with dorky and encouraging messages. On one of them, there’s a big cutout of a cartoon honeybee with a speech bubble telling her to ‘BEE Positive!’ She would’ve gagged at the sight when she was a kid.
But her child isn’t her. They’re their own person. She feels their hand tense up in hers and gives it an affirming squeeze. ‘I think you’re really gonna like it here,’ she wants to tell them.
That’s when she sees her.
Behind the teacher’s desk in all her glory, sits Adora fucking Grayskull.
“Hi,” says Catra’s ex-girlfriend with a big smile plastered across her flawless face. “You must be Finn’s mom.”

Whoever the hell Catra’s soulmate was, they seemed to get banged up a lot. She was always waking up with random marks. For the first few years, it was the normal dings that a kid gets. In her teens, the bruises got bigger, like they were into karate or football or some other kind of contact sport. Over the last couple of years though, Catra had started to receive marks in the middle of the night. At first, she thought her soulmate was a cop (which, gross cause ACAB). Maybe a burglar? She’d hoped maybe they were a certain firefighter she knew. Last night confirmed it though.
Catra, who never had anything normal happen to her, was matched with a godsdamn 8-foot tall glowing monster. How fitting.
All she ever wanted was to hide in the background and be medium-happy. That wasn’t a lot to ask! Now she knew she was bound – completely, cosmically, irrevocably – to something weird and supernatural.
Catra was, quite honestly, scared shitless.

For Catra, life was completely monotonous, placid and happy.
She had her classes at the university, her inseparable and eccentric friends with whom she shared an apartment, and her unruly dance school students whom she loved like little brothers and sisters. Everything was simple, with no excessive worries or dramas to dampen her routine. Until life forced her to cross paths with someone completely opposite to her.
Adora was tall, incredibly strong, absurdly beautiful... and a complete walking disaster, with more demons inside her than anyone Catra had ever met and a life full of regrets.
Catra knew she was making a mistake by meddling in Adora's life, but the blonde's innocent smile and sadness-laden blue eyes convinced her that she had to help her somehow, even at the cost of her own emotional stability.
She just hoped she was strong enough for that.

It ended in Catra accusing Adora of wanting to abolish child labor laws and with Adora calling Catra a dumb face. Ever since then they have been constantly in competition with one another whether it was grades, sports, or well anything really.
Now they are attending the same college. However, college is a lot bigger than high school and they are in separate majors so the likelihood of them running into each other is slim right?
