Lee’s eyes were impossibly wide as he fixed Zuko with a look that Zuko knew all too well. “No! I hate you!”
He did. The boy hated him.
Zuko held the boy’s gaze as he slipped the knife back into his pocket. Lee turned away, and his mother too. Turned their backs towards him, this family he helped when he didn’t have to. Like it had meant nothing. Maybe it hadn’t.
He’d almost made it to his ostrich horse when something heavy hit him in the back of the head and everything went black.
Zuko doesn't make it out of town at the end of Zuko Alone. Instead, the villagers capture him and throw him into a hot box. Overheating and alone, Zuko thinks about his father.
A continuation of “Zuko, Alone” with whump and Ozai flashbacks.
