“Is this your flyer, Manes?” Guerin asked, waving a piece of blue paper around.
Alex crossed his arms. “It is,” he said suspiciously. “Why?”
“You’re offering guitar lessons, right?” Guerin asked, all fake innocence. “I’m signing up. And whoops, I don’t have a guitar. Guess I’ll have to borrow yours.”
Michael steals Alex's guitar, then pays him to keep playing it. Alex just wants the forty bucks, until he gets to know the annoying guitar thief a little better.

Summary
This is my RNM Fanfic Remix. I matched with skinsharpenedteeth, and this is a remix of their story "Michael Guerin is a Grower." This is the same plotline, told from Alex's perspective. Please see the original story for Michael's perspective.
In this story, Alex makes the decision to apply for a PTSD service dog. His application is accepted, and he's required to go to Florida for three weeks for training. He asks Michael to house-sit while he's gone.
Also, giving credit where it's due, 99.9% of all Alex/Michael dialogue and texting is skinsharpenedteeth's! Enjoy!

He doesn’t so much see Alex approach as hear him, feel him. The careful, deliberately even steps, punctuated by the sharp strike of the crutch against the ground. The way the air around them seems to charge, sparking electricity, the current snapping between them before either even says a word.
Michael bites his lip and folds his arms across his chest, willing his traitorous heart to stop beating so hard. Alex has been clear about his feelings — or, more accurately, his lack thereof. He doesn’t want this to continue. So he shouldn’t be here.
“Careful not to come too close,” Michael drawls. “My bad reputation might start to rub off on you.”
Alex is finally taking shape against the night, dressed in a blue plaid shirt and dark jeans, his hair an artful mess. “That’s not the part of you I was hoping to rub off on.”

It's not like it comes up all the time. Sure, there's the usual casual homophobia, from men and women alike. It's easy to brush off that stuff when you've heard worse from your own dad, and it's not like Alex gives away any sign that they're talking about him.
Sometimes he gets paranoid that he does, that there's something inherent in him, something everyone can see on his face, in his eyes or in the way he holds himself. Something Jesse saw before Alex even knew what he was looking at.
