"Shane can feel his coach’s gaze on him as he finishes removing his gear, can feel the anger radiating off him and everyone else in the room so strongly it makes tears prick at the corners of his eyes, and he knows he’s not strong enough to stop what’s about to happen.
He’s usually better at hiding this side of him, at gritting his teeth and pretending he’s not actually a real submissive like this club expects of him. But Shane is so tired of pretending, so tired of being forced to hide the aspects of himself these people don’t want to see, and he can’t muster up the strength to mask like he usually does.
He’s not the robot that people think he is. He’s someone who loves hockey more than almost anything and this is the only way he’s ever been allowed to have it. He’s someone who, even after everything, still is desperate to prove his worth to the only NHL team he has ever known.
He’s also a sub surrounded by people who hate him and whose thoughts are becoming more fractured by the second. There is no scenario where he comes out of this unscathed."
Or, Shane does the only thing he can do in the aftermath of tripping during the Voyageurs and Centaurs playoff series. He breaks.

“Oh sweetie. I know, okay. Those fuckers, how dare they do this! Two fucking cups! Now all of a sudden they decide they want a reset and you’re going to fund it.”
Shane put his head between his knees and tried to breathe. God, Boston. They hated him there; it was so far away; he was fucking their captain.

“Then you guys came in and he took off.” She nodded, folding her hands tightly in her lap, indicating that she was done talking.
“How’s your head, by the way,” Officer Freeman asked, when she’d finished writing.
“Dr. Langdon checked me out.” She said. He’d sat quietly next to her, listening intently. He sat a little straighter when she mentioned his name.
“She’ll be okay, long term. One hell of a goose egg, though. And I’ll be monitoring her for any signs of an incoming migraine. Light sensitivity, nausea, that sort of thing.” He said. She looked up at the ceiling, counting the tiles. She was ready for this conversation to be over. She hoped they wouldn’t mention going to court again, “Look at her. Rolling her eyes at me. Doctors are the worst patients.” He continued.
“I’m not rolling my eyes-“ She began to protest, before catching the smile on his face. He was teasing her. Ok. Now she did feel like rolling her eyes. They asked her more questions, about his injury, her treatment of it, the severity of it. Unfortunately he probably wouldn’t need to seek medical attention elsewhere. Eventually, they stopped asking questions, closed their notebooks and stood.

“Hollander? You are still here?” Rozanov called, breaking the TV static silence filling Shane’s head. He blinked.
“Uh. Yeah, just leaving,” he answered, surprised by how steady his voice sounded. Good, that was good. He knew he couldn’t show Rozanov any weakness if he wanted to keep coming back.
But did he want to come back if it made him feel like this?
“Door is too heavy? Or I fuck you too good, you cannot move legs,” came Rozanov’s taunting response. Shane could practically see the tilted smirk on his face, cigarette smoke wafting around his freshly-showered curls.
“Fuck off, Rozanov,” Shane muttered.

Summary
Having an entire room to himself, even if it's not in use, makes him feel guilty. The idea of a private room, a space entirely for him, is an incredibly foreign concept to him. Living on a farm, being the youngest of four, and a copious amount of nieces and nephews always romping around the place during family gatherings did not allow for a semblance of privacy. Dennis is used to sharing rooms, bathrooms, and even beds when space was tight. A farmhouse did not correlate with personal space. During his undergrad, he even shared a room with other students.
He has no idea what he’s supposed to do with space beyond a bed. In the abandoned wing, he didn’t get much time to dwell on having his own space, because it wasn’t really his in the first place. Always on the lookout, over his shoulder, switching rooms to avoid guards and being caught.
But now Dr. Robby is offering an entire room. And rent free at that.
And maybe that is where the guilt stifles him a bit.

Summary
Signal after signal rings through and she's about to give up when he finally accepts the call.
There's a weird shuffling noise in her ear.
“Huckleberry, where the hell are you?” she says
For a few seconds there's only silence and her stomach twists unpleasantly. She presses her hand to her other ear to try to cancel out the noise around her.
“Trinity…I don't feel good…help…”
Her grip around the phone tightens and she looks at Dana and Robby and her heart picks up speed.
His voice is hoarse and weak and he seems out of it.
“Where are you? What's going on?” she asks.
“Really…tired…something's…wrong…”
He coughs into the phone for several long seconds.
“Trin’ty?...pl’se help…”
The words are slurry and he struggles to get the words out, his breaths rapid in her ear.
“Where are you? Talk to me! Huckleberry? Tell me where you are.” she says frantically.
There's nothing but silence in her ear.
