"Vulnerability… Oh how she hated that word even more now than she ever had. The last few days had been riddled with its looming presence and she had had enough; first her partial confession Valentine's night, then the thankfully interrupted almost-leap into uncharted intimacy, the umpteenth altercation with Xavier and strange exchange with Dulo, Enid’s gift and the bloodsoaked night in the woods, and their uncomfortable conversation thereafter. At least Friday had been relatively uneventful. It hadn’t lasted long enough."
The contest was won, and their relationship was real now. So why did it feel like everything meaningful was just beginning?

“Oh, no, you definitely don’t want to do that,” Kara said, picking up a paper cup and dumping a teabag in it.
The woman next to her looked up, surprise etched onto her pale, drawn face. “Excuse me?” she rasped.
Kara nodded at the coffee pot the woman had picked up and wrinkled her nose. “You’d get better coffee at the 7-Eleven across the street and that’s saying something. I’d stick with tea.”
“Oh. Oh … okay.”
“First time?” Kara asked, glancing sideways at the woman.
She was striking, her medium height made a fraction taller by her heels, the tailored cut of her clothes precise, her makeup perfect and her dark hair long and sleek. In her scrubs and denim jacket, bare-faced and dishevelled, Kara felt positively inadequate. And yet, there was the same hollowed out look to the newcomer's face, a sadness in her green eyes, a weary slump to her shoulders that was recognisable.
“Yes.”
Picking up a glazed donut, Kara took a bite and gave her a strained smile. “I’d say it’s good to have you here but … well, obviously not.”

“They what?” Wednesday was just as confused with the slang as the topic, but Enid stood up and continued as if she was keeping up.
“This would actually be a perfect way to come out as a couple. I could say that we’ve been keeping it under wraps since we all know how you are,” Wednesday stood up and followed her roommate as she began to wander during the explanation of what was unfurling into some sort of teen romance masterplan. “But since we wouldn’t be able to participate in this contest without everyone finding out,” she abruptly turned around, causing the follower to stop short, “BAM! Here we are, world!” Enid beamed.
Finally an adventure without bad guys or danger… or was it?

To her knowledge, no, that was not within her scope of powers but the blonde wasn’t without doubt that it could very well be a hidden ability. Wiping her weirdly sweaty hands on the cushion she sat upon, she released a small laugh under her breath. “How do you always know when I’m thinking of you?”
