Summary
Haunted by the grief of losing Niko and desperate to find meaning in everything that happened to him, Edwin’s drawn back to Port Townsend. Back to the idea that the suffering of a ghost like him, someone tempered in hellfire, can be forged into immense magical power. And he’d only use it to protect rather than ruin.

The absolute silence of the public library, with an occasional murmur or the click of heels, is repeatedly cut with the loud sounds they can't help making.

Royalty au where both Edwin and Charles are princes of rivaling countries. They're both just 16, when the war begins, and they're forced to stay away for four years.
Then one day, even though the Rowlands are close to prevailing, Paul Rowland is slain in battle and Charles inherits the throne. He sends for King Edmund Payne to discuss a peace treaty. He'll end the war and spare the Payne kingdom under one condition.
"Whatever do you wish for, Your Majesty?" Edmund Payne asks, seething, but unable to refuse and risk losing what's left of his war-stricken kingdom.
"Him." The room falls silent, as Charles' raised finger lands unmistakably on Edwin.

Summary
Edwin tells Charles he loves him in Hell, but when Charles quickly responds with his own breathless 'I love you', Edwin assumes his friend meant it platonically, so he gives up halfway through his confession, leaving out the crucial 'I'm in love with you' part. Dejected, he decides to keep his feelings a secret.
Meanwhile, Charles has been in love with his best mate for years, so when they unexpectedly exchange 'I love yous' on the staircase of Hell, Charles happily assumes that they've just started dating and are just going at a really slow pace.
Needless to say, they're not really on the same page.

Charles sees it happen in real time. He sees how Edwin goes from distressed to so deeply panicked it’s evident that his mind goes to a completely different place. He also sees the moment Edwin flickers and simply sinks through the floor.
Edwin phasing through one floor to get to the one below wouldn’t be anything to write home about, except for the fact that they already are on the utmost ground floor. There was nothing underneath the house but a few meters of concrete, followed by rock and dirt.

Shiro decides to confess to Keith today.
He prepares himself mentally and right as he's about to pull Keith to the side after a meeting, someone grabs his shoulder and proceeds to try to ask him out instead.
AKA Shiro asks Keith out but Keith thinks Shiro just needed a little cover-up, an excuse to get rid off some unwanted attention, and that every time Shiro uses the word "date" he's joking. Shiro's very serious though.
