Astarion collapsed face-first onto the bed next to her with a dramatic groan of pure suffering. He managed to land hard enough that she bounced, which was actually pretty impressive.
Serra set aside the sock she was darning and ran her fingers through his hair. He almost managed to not purr. “Your first longbow lesson was that fun, then?”
“Speaking as an expert, that so-called ‘ranger’ is a monster,” he announced, gravitas only slightly impaired by the fact that he was muffled by a very fluffy blanket. “I may never move my shoulders again.”
“That would be a tragedy. They're such nice shoulders.”
“Exactly. Utterly monstrous.”
Astarion tries something new. He learns more than he signed up for.

“Maomao?” He presses, fingers closing over hers and lowering their joined hands to her lap, and she blinks in surprise at the use of her name. “What is it? What’s wrong?”
“Their technique is sloppy,” she answers honestly. “I feel strain on my heart. They should have targeted the nervous system instead.”
Master Jinshi stares at her like she’s spoken a foreign language he can’t even begin to try and understand. She tries to explain.
“Certain snake venoms cause coagulation of the blood, which could have been effective and made the blood unable to move through my veins, but if the end result is simply making my heart stop beating by targeting the muscles involv-”
“Maomao,” Master Jinshi says, very calmly, “I need you to stop speaking now.”
(an assassin tries to kill jinshi with a poisoned blade that gets maomao instead) (she is obviously much less concerned about this than everyone else)

Nothing has changed, and yet it is better, because he is there, standing in the middle of it.“Couldn’t sleep”, she mumbles, bringing one hand up to rub her sleeve against her cheek, pretending she can feel the imprint of his pillow there before she can stop herself. “Did I wake you up?”
Momo goes to see Okarun on a Friday night; there is tea, there are Fresno Nightcrawlers, and in the end, a kiss.
