The Szarr family arrived in Gotham in the early 1800s. Aristocratic, pale, and impossibly wealthy. They built a manor on the outer edge of the old quarter, kept to themselves, and outlived everyone who thought to ask questions. To the city's elite, Cazador Szarr is merely a reclusive eccentric billionaire.
The young man always at his side is introduced as his ward. His heir. Astarion Ancúnin is beautiful and charming and has not made a single choice of his own free will in two hundred years.
Nightwing has brought down crime lords, assassins, and monsters wearing human faces. He is very good at his job. When a string of missing persons leads him to the Szarr family's doorstep, he's confident he knows what he's walking into.
He has never been more wrong about anything in his life.

Week One.
It’s freezing.
Cold presses up against his cheek and shoulder. The cotton tee, sweatpants and polyester socks aren’t nearly enough to keep out the chill. He doesn’t want to be dramatic, but if his bones turned to ice, he wouldn’t be surprised. His shoulder aches, bruised and stiff. He’d roll over to the other one if it didn’t feel the exact same. He’s choosing the lesser evil, it would seem. There’s been a lot of that this week.
The shackle around his ankle is tight and uncomfortable, the chain attached to it even more so. Every time he so much as twitches, it clinks against itself. Dick’s backed himself into quite the corner. Pinned by his own stupidity and ego. It’s clear the Titans aren’t on par. They were never on par. Slade had been six steps ahead the whole time, and now— well. Now he has what he wants.
Dick shudders.
An apprentice. How had he missed that?

He knew him. Hadn’t seen him out of the suit in years, and he looked different, but he knew him all the same — would always know him. And up until a minute ago he’d thought he hated him.
