Summary
It's been 5 years since the zombie apocalypse began; 5 years since the collapse of society. Humanity is alive and well, more or less, but not without losses and sacrifice.
Society may be gone, but humanity lives on in the little things. It lives on in Safiya, the leader of a compound for survivors who has far too many problems and not enough hours of sleep to deal with them, and her best friend Jc who can't let go of an unhealthy grudge. It lives on in Mat, grieving and broken but willing to put it all on the line for the sake of Teala, anxious but kind, another bright spark of humanity, who he saved from the jaws of death but a few months ago. And it lives in Manny and Nikita, a pair of best friends who have nothing but each other; yet a rift between them grows deeper every day and it threatens to suck them down if it finally splits open.
Humanity lives on, that much is certain, but how long until these humans crack under the strain of this new life?

I took on a self-imposed challenge to write three oneshots, one for each of the three other members of the (original) EtN Authors group chat. The goal was for each one to be at least 1k words, and it did take me a while, but I've done it!

Summary
Despite working at virtually the same desk for the past four months, Daphne realises she doesn't actually know as much about Junior Detective Lev Ozdil as she maybe should. At least, she'd gotten in with Karadec and Soto in basically half the time. She isn't clueless, though: she knows her desk mate always arrives on time with his morning coffee, knows he might still be just a little scared of Karadec, knows that the photo is his wallet is one of him and his dad. She knows he's committed, and friendly, and well suited for their team.
He's always 'happy to lend a hand', even if she hasn't had any reason to avail of that offer yet outside of their Karadec-instructed cross-referencing of case notes. It's kind of a shame, really. It'd be nice to have an excuse to just talk.

The feeling of relief that passes through Karadec when he sees Ava on the swat team’s camera doesn’t last long. Mostly, because even if she’s no longer missing, even if she won’t get shot as long as she stays at Daphne or Morgan’s side, he knows exactly what Morgan must be thinking, because he’s thinking it too. Even if they’re together, they’re still in there. In there with the unsolved case and the bomb.
