He starts with the ring of daisies around Ratio's finger, then moves up to the forget-me-nots along his wrist and forearm; brushes kisses over intertwined cyclamen and myrtle; and finally comes to a stop over the flower buds still waiting in repose, marks of a future that has yet to bloom.

I need to finish this case report by morning so that Diamond can approve it immediately, and we can get the search for his parents underway. Jade might have forced me to go home, but I can do that much for a scared child who's waiting in police custody, don't you think?"
