Summary
Alucard directs his ragtag band of hunters to take a well-earned respite in the small village of Giverny just outside of the capital and they stay the night at a tavern wherein Richter gets tipsy fast. After 'caring' for Richter after he breaks a mug and lodges a piece of glass in his hand, Richter gets bold and handsy, kissing Alucard in the kitchen behind the bar.
The evening ends with Alucard carrying Richter off to bed and the young hunter jerking himself to the memory of Alucard drinking his blood.

“How else am I supposed to think of it, then?” Annette hisses, “You’re going to marry me off to some white man I don’t even know. A French man, right?” She scoffs, disgusted. “Those people were the ones who enslaved us to begin with!”
“Annette,” Cécile shakes her head, “How do you think freedom is maintained?”

With Richter at her side, the ship she boarded back to Saint Domingue didn’t feel nearly as oppressive as the first had been. Annette moved closer to him, nuzzling her cheek into the crook of his shoulder. She hadn’t fully woken up yet, nor did she intend to when Richter’s body was as solid as an anchor. It was still cold on the ship — they must be miles from the shore now, but the cold hardly bothered her now. She didn’t even think she needed a blanket. The brown-haired man was like her own personal furnace.
He chuckled. He must have woken up from her movement. “Cold?” He asked as his lips brushed over her forehead.
“No,” Annette responded, breathing in his scent. He smelled like smoke and fresh wood, “That would be impossible next to you. You feel like a bonfire.”
“It’s probably the muscles,” He noted smugly, and she bit back an amused laugh as his eyebrows raised suggestively. “Now, you have the added bonus of them keeping you warm, plus they're nice to look at.”
“You’re so full of yourself.”
“I’m a Belmont,” Richter grinned. “It comes with the territory.”
Annette and Richter travel to Saint Domingue and have a talk — among other things.

“Didn’t anyone ever tell you not to torment your food?”
It felt as if the voice was trailing cold fingers up her spine, alighting something deep and instinctual that yelled at her to flee. The rabbit in her grasp must have felt similarly, squirming away from her in a panic. Annette looked up to find ethereal blue eyes glowing amongst the shadows, before a tall man stepped out of the darkness as if he'd been a part of it. His eyes gleamed, flashing a fanged grin.
“Me neither,” he said in answer to himself, baring a clawed hand in threat.
Annette stood, machete raised. “Who are you? What do you want?”
“Oh, little deer, all alone in the woods.” He shook his head while leisurely walking a circle around her, voice oddly playful. “You should be more careful after running into a wolf.”
His eyes gleamed, and he winked. Annette’s breath caught. The wolf from before, it had been him. She wasn’t being hunted by a mere animal.
She was being hunted by a monster.
