Benjamin’s jaw fell at the sight of me. I swallowed.

He was silent, but stepped aside to let us by. Everything was just as I’d left it, minus Ellie’s things. A guy with a yellow and blue raincoat sat in my old office chair. I recognized him as Oliver Todaro, Benjamin’s old high school friend. I smirked a bit. What was this, a high school reunion? His eyebrows shot up when he spotted me, but he stayed sitting. Benjamin shut the door, and I turned to him. He had an apple in his hand. I decided I just needed to say it.
“Do you know you’re dreaming?” I asked.

There's a tentative new normal, almost, with what they're doing. Benjamin would call it good, or even nice, if it wasn't still an objectively, stupidly, terrible idea. He should make more of an effort to stop this before it blows up in both of their faces. He should have a sliver of self-control so that this doesn't go too far. There's a lot of things he should do. None of them include Quinn climbing onto his lap and Benjamin pulling him closer. He does it anyway.

He's pretty sure this tendency goes beyond the whole concept of how opposites attract; it's more so about having people that can balance him out. It's a dynamic in which both parties complement each other. It's the same reason why atoms have a designated amount of protons and electrons — otherwise stuff gets unstable.
