Odysseus thinks of Iris often. Too often. More often than he thinks of Penelope. His wife, loyal and cunning and brave. His wife, whose face he can barely remember and whose voice is just a whisper in his ears.
His wife, who had not marched out onto the battlefield with him at Troy. His wife, who had not gotten on her hands and knees and begged Poseidon for mercy, or for Circe to show kindness, or for Zeus to take her instead.
No, Odysseus rarely thinks of Penelope these days. It is always Iris.

Summary
Hermes’ form began to glow a sickly orange, radiating in waves as a pair of ram horns sprouted alongside the wings on his head. Odysseus watched with morbid curiosity as the rest of Hermes' body darkened, creating the illusion of a void besides the luminescent glow of his eyes and wings. His mouth seemed to glow with each word he spoke, but Odysseus couldn’t be sure as the deity took another step away from him and towards the goddess that haunted his life for seven years.
“I have been patient, daughter of Pleione, but you have tested me. I came here with no intention of creating conflict, but you have given me NO choice!”

Summary
There were rumors, quickly squashed by the island kingdom, that the Prince of Ithaca had grown wings on his feet when he was a boy. There were rumors that he had wings elsewhere too; on his back and behind his ears. They were squashed even quicker. Anyone who could get a look at the prince could see that his body was not adorned in feathers of any kind.
None of them knew, and Ithaca’s royal family planned to keep it that way. Fearing that this problem of unknown origin (curse or yet another divine being’s fling with a mortal) would be seen as an insult to the gods and bring down their wrath. Odysseus has grown used to having to cut down or hide the extra appendages, but the struggle only grew when he was forced into the Trojan War.
Now, with the war at its end and his fleet ready to return home, he only has one thing on his mind; getting back to his wife and son.
OR
An alternate universe where Hermes's relation to one particular Greek hero becomes a bit more prominent, and he suddenly has a much better reason to help Odysseus on his journey home.

"I love him - I know that much but recently I'm starting to feel like he also does, y'know?" He began to rant to Perimedes, who just sat there and nodded occasionally. "There's been a few times where I've definitely felt certain but then again he has Penelope and I don't even think I cross his mind that much."

This is a literary retelling of EPIC from Love in Paradise and beyond. If this picks up and gets some traction, I may also continue with the Vengeance Saga and the Ithaca Saga as well. And possibly beyond.
This will be from the perspective of the gods - occasionally, there may or may not be a mortal point of view in certain cases, but mostly it’s focusing on the Greek pantheon’s perspective.

"Ordinary Bard at your service!" He added with a bow, placing one hand over his chest, the other behind his back as he placed one of his leg behind the other.
"A Bard.. Just.. Doesn't fall out from the sky." Odysseus bluntly stated.
