The sterile hum of the hospital room was deafening in its quietness. Sunlight filtered weakly through the blinds, casting sharp stripes across the two beds where numbers 81 and 55 lay, broken and bruised, worlds apart despite their proximity.
Carlos' eyes snapped open first, every breath a jagged blade of pain. His head swam, vision blurred by the dull ache radiating from every muscle. His gaze landed immediately on Oscar, who was staring back, equally battered and sullen, eyes narrow with distrust.

Stepping into Max’s hotel room feels wrong somehow. But it's not like he didn't know this was a real possibility when he showed up. What did he want if not to be let in? He'd been in Max's hotel room before. This was nothing new. Not really. But… It had been awhile. Max closes and locks the door behind him.
Daniel waits for about two seconds before deciding to treat this like back in the golden days where they practically lived with each other. Red Bull could have saved money and booked them rooms together for all the time they spent in each other's rooms. Might as well pretend nothing had changed.
Waltzing in, he collapses onto the couch. “Nice room Maxie, I think-” he turns his head just in time to see Max stumble, reaching for the wall and bringing a hand up to his bowed head. “Hey,” he's back on his feet and moving towards him, “Max? What's wrong?”

Daniel had realized that pretty early on and every time Max proved it, Daniel felt him slipping further and further away from the kid. It wasn’t fair. But it was Max. Irritating, flustering, beautiful Max Verstappen. Menace on the racetrack, a menace to the press, a menace to Daniel his entire career. It wasn’t fair. But nothing about the kid’s life had ever been fair. Maybe this was just karma finally catching up.

Formula one cars move at over 300 km/h. That means over 80 meters go by in a second; and that is the reason why drivers train their reflexes.
Oscar barely saw it coming his way, it came at him too suddenly, but that is no excuse, he trains his reflexes for a reason.
Later, reviewing the onboards and multiple track cameras, he’d learn that Max had swerved too close over the edge and displaced the debris. It bumped into the side of his car and the wind sent it flying backwards right onto Oscar’s path.
But that is at a later date, right now Oscar tries to swerve to avoid the mysterious object.
And he fails.

“What 10-questions-to-ask-your-teammate-to-get-to-know-them site did you get that one from?” Lewis laughs, as he moves to pull the balaclava over his head. They have 5 minutes until they have to be ready in the car and admittedly, this moment might not be the best time to ask this kind of question.
“No, I mean it,” Charles insists, lifting his helmet from the stand, but holding it awkwardly in his hands, maintaining eye contact. “If you were stuck, what would you do?”
Lewis places his hand on his shoulder lightly, squeezing once. “We can talk about this after the race, yes?”
There won’t be an after the race, Charles thinks bitterly, but he nods his head anyway. “Yeah,” he agrees, “after the race, sure.”

Their first shared podium and the team’s first win came at Silverstone, with Max in P1 and Logan in P3. From the sidelines, Max watched as Jenson Button interviewed his teammate. Logan is beaming, his smile wide, a bounce in his step as he talks about how special Silverstone is to him, and thanked Red Bull for giving him a second chance to prove himself. Max threw caution to the wind when Logan turned to him, champagne dripping from his face, and smiled this bright, infectious, earth-shattering smile at him. The bottle of champagne slipped from Max’s hand, forgotten, as he pulled Logan into a hug.
“I’m so proud of you, Liefje,” he whispered, pressing his nose to the line of Logan’s jaw, trying and failing, to make it look platonic for the cameras.****
Or; Max was chasing history, a 5th title, he didn’t expect to find Logan Sargeant along the way and he never expected to want him more than the win.-
