Aka, my take on how the Chit Sang would reveal what Zuko stood for to the Gaang + Hakoda, and how it would be seen. I did this all while listening to "Things We Lost In The Fire" by Bastille on repeat. (I had to, at some point, make an obligatory Gaang finds out about the scar with added spice!)

Erratic, he thinks as her flyways singe at the ends and golden hue burns into yellow embers. Zuko can feel the guards looking to him for direction. Armor shuffling nervously and gloved hands tightening around their spears.
Still – she is in the cage, and they are not.
She’s roamed closer now to the iron bars, nearly nose to nose with Zuko. He’s close enough to see the smattering of red on her cheek from crying.
It reminds him of when she was a toddler. A little girl with ruddy red cheeks and shiny gold eyes sniffling as Zuko frantically tried to placate her awful tears.
Is he allowed the bitter lump of tears in his throat? He sees how far from grace she’s fallen and can’t help but mourn.
“I’ll be back tomorrow.”

A Forward by the Scholar Zuyen:
It has been a long upheld truth of our great nation that after the twin falls of the disgraced Fire Lord Ozai and Princess Azula, and their subsequent imprisonments, neither of the two ever regained contact with our well-respected Fire Lord Zuko. While Fire Lord Zuko ensured the humane holding conditions of his estranged father and sister immediately after his ascension to the throne, he reportedly never saw a need to continue communications with them. Before writing this book, my answer to such an obvious statement would have been, "Blasting flames—well of course he didn't!" Now, though, my answer would be quite different. But best leave that til later.
Fire Lord Zuko, when questioned about such matters, only ever gave one answer in response, saying: “A true leader has no need for snakes and scoundrels. Dragons are far superior.”
Given his far more professional reply, it is no wonder that he was the fire lord and I am a less-than-humble scholar.

Summary
Zuko doesn't wake up after the Lightning strikes his chest. It's too quick, and he can't siphon its blow. He falls, slowly dying. Slow enough to see his sister fighting Katara. Slow enough to see their battle unfold. When he finally succumbs the last thing he sees is Katara rushing over a second too late, trying futilely to save his life.
The only thing he hears are Azula's screams and cries, as she sits chained to the grate in a sobbing mess. When Zuko finally succumbs to his wounds he hears her cry.
When he wakes he hears a laugh, and it's the laugh of a child.

Sokka's calling bullshit though and Zuko would be inclined to agree. Soulmates aren't supposed to be fighting on opposite sides of a war and really shouldn't try to kill each others' friends.
