Summary
In another life, Jaheira met Gale in the woods outside Waterdeep. She was silver haired, still, but he was the arrogant graduate of his youth. In the fantasy, she had far worse intentions. Her swords would prickle against his fresh-shaved face. Her vines– Gods, those vines, he remembered them still– would tie him tight and prickle through his fine silks. “Scared of your own blood, Dekarios?” She’d tease, tucking the swordpoint under his chin. “Oh, poor thing. Of course you are, you’re only a cub.”
In some bid to tidy an office whipped through vellum and vine, Gale could not help but laugh when he found what his lover had deigned to keep from the old days.
Staring back at him in faded brown ink was a scowling young Jaheira, plastered upon a Wanted poster.

They had called each other lover for years, now, they had shared a bed for longer. But when Jaheira pressed the arch of her foot between his legs with just enough pressure to squeeze the breath from his lungs, it felt like that very first night in the Elfsong again. She made him feel hot behind the ears, chastised like a boy in the best way.
“Ah. You see. It’s simply–” Gale squeezed his eyes shut, willing himself not to buck up into her touch. How many times had he brought himself off to gold-flecked eyes staring down at him, to the way she called him cub?
Jaheira brought him back down to earth with another teasing press against the growing problem in his lap. “The scimitar and staff then. Aha. You would not be Belm’s first suitor.”

Summary
Gale is torn between ambition and mortality. Jaheira knows well the cost of ambition and is ready to make sure he truly knows the price.
The vines were thick with thorns, woody and dry. The ever-growing ones that crept up his calves now were supple but itchy with fine little hairs. He watched them as they wrapped around, dividing themselves into countless branches and rooted him to the spot.
“Do you always show your belly so easily?” She was no more than one pace away from him. Gale felt suddenly flushed with embarrassment, not of his nudity, or of their agreement, but that he had not been able to look at her until she had rooted him here in front of her, with nowhere else to turn.
He lifted his eyes.
Her face was writ with amusement. He felt mirth bubbling up in him.
“Certainly,” he said, “I like to make myself indispensable.”
She snorted. “Let us see about that, then.”

Bookmarker's Notes
"She is teaching you the cost of ambition. The thought was wispy, difficult to hold on to under her lesson.
The cost of ambition to divinity is destruction of the divine.
Each moment where she struck into him deep, he could taste divinity again. The white light behind his eyes, the way his body was undone, and wasn't his body, or perhaps even a body at all anymore. She was fucking him hard enough to let him see the space where planes touched, the little bright divine space between worlds."

If you happen to be a fan of my Gale/Jaheira longfic and are for some reason looking at my bookmarks, you need to read this now. It's some of the vibe but in a far more elegant package. Excellent. Fucking excellent.
(My recommendation is so intense I want to mention that if humiliation is a yellow flag tag for you, it's extremely mild. No character bashing or real unkindness here imo.)

She could hear the celebrations from the house two doors down. That would be the one she turned around at, she decided, wanting to attend their celebration from the outside, if only for a moment. She looked in the window from across the street. The front room was indeed full of people, each with drink in hand, laughing and cheering for someone. She laughed to herself as she saw the illusion of fireworks inside the room, setting the room alight with sparkling magic fit for a midwinter celebration. She missed magic. She saw the crowd part, presumably for the subject of the cheers.
Her eyes widened. Her breathing quickened.
His hair was longer, a little more grey at the temples. He still tied it up halfway. He still had his beard. The creases by his eyes were a little deeper.
He was looking right at her, frozen, his brown eyes just as wide as hers.
She turned quickly to make a hasty escape. She knew it was tempting the gods to come down this street, but hadn’t that been the point? Hadn’t she become addicted to the if only during her time in the city?

Written for Colours of the Gate, this one shot takes a look at an unromanced Astarion trying to find safety in the large arms of Minsc. Unfortunately for the vampire spawn, it's not so easy to seduce the Stone Lord who seems entirely oblivious to every advance. But Astarion is nothing if not persistent, and as Minsc is neither turning him down nor walking away...
For the noble and heroic Rashemaar, romance isn't really a language he speaks - no matter how hard Boo tries to explain things to him. But he does understand what loving someone is, what caring for your friends means, and that there is one pale elf who has been sorely lacking anything close to love, care, or even real friends for a long time.
A short adventure of what companionship can look like beyond the usual romantic and sexual overtures~

"Even when Minsc left, attending to duty’s call and finding supplies to help care for the spawn, his warmth remained. It was right there, draped around Astarion’s narrow shoulders, fastened with a Harper’s pin – a simple worn blanket that had gained far more meaning than the patterns embroidered around the hem in a language he had yet to learn."

Heinrix leans his full body weight against him. If there was any space between them Heinrix thinks that he would have burst into tears, cum already, manifested the warp, perished. He’s feverish and trembling. It’s been years. It’s so little, he’s done it before, but it feels good and that’s enough to make him panic.

The world was saved from the latest horrible mindflayer invasion thing. Whatever they had ended up calling it. Astarion wasn't sure. Nor did he really care. Good for the world and the people who actually enjoy being alive in it. Oh, sure he had been all on board with saving it, gung-ho even! as they got closer to the end. Partially riding that 'Cazador is fucking dead' energy high but also, well, he had honestly actually grown to care. He wanted to win this one too! Then pop on down to Avernus with Karlach, that was the plan! Surely, they would find something to fix her heart up down there, but even if they couldn't, well, she would not be alone this time! He would be there with her! It was brilliant. At least Astarion thought so.
Karlach must have not agreed. What with how she burned to death at the end of the pier.

And so, he continued to smile at the ghost who had come to haunt him.
And so, he spread his arms wide, his palms upturned as a gesture of goodwill, as a gesture of placation to the wolf who was trying so desperately to file down its own teeth and the not-dog at their side.
And so, he strung together the story of their past in a way that sounded much kinder than reality. He spoke of plots and plans and quiet moments and two intellectual equals, though he refrained from mentioning how one was more equal than the other. He glossed over the blood and death which followed in their wake.
He, very deliberately, didn't mention knives.
He didn't mention knives, but he could see them as the edges of their frown twisted upward into a sneer. In the way the flower petals shook with every minute tremble of their arms. In the crease between their eyebrows and wrinkle of their nose. And, more literally, where the hilts glinted at their waist in the late afternoon light which filtered through the high windows.

It would be... unpleasant, to say the least, if the books became loud. They were jittery things, after all. People would often say that so was she, the handling of all these tomes of great magic turning her into a nervous wreck, but she was simply being cautious. That did not stop them whispering behind her back, more unkind whispers about how the magic might have affected her mind, how she saw danger where there was none. That the whispering of the books was only in her fevered imagination, and her cautious care unnecessary.

There’s something Jaheira’s not saying. “What happened to his last handler?” asks Gale.
“The last four, you mean?” The rueful curve of her smirk deepens the crow’s feet around her eyes. It makes her seem younger, somehow. “The first died. The second went missing. The last two quit. You’ll be fine.”
In a Faerûn where magic is slowly diminishing, disgraced former Chosen of Mystra Gale Dekarios survives in Baldur's Gate as a Harper alchemist, tending their greenhouses and nursing the Netherese orb in his chest—until his High Harper forces him into fieldwork.
His first assignment? A vampire spawn informant with a crooked touch, dreams of ruin and vengeance, and a hunger to rival his own.

“All Harpers are marked, Gale.” Jaheira’s voice is surprisingly gentle. “Debts, bad blood, broken oaths, literal curses—we run the gamut. You can do the job just as well as everybody else.”
The hunger in him sings. It’s a leash that’s almost never pulled: it’s shocking how quickly his body pushes his better sense to acquiesce. And gods, how quickly Jaheira sees it. The corner of her lip curls.

Korvikoum means 'choices and consequences.' It's simple, really. The fate has twists and turns, the gods are fickle, and things happen whether you want them or not. But in the end it's just you with the circumstances, and only you decide how to deal with them. This is the choices part. Making a choice is a duty, a part of life and an honour. Dead don't choose. Slaves don't choose. So, if you are to make a choice, you must be able to accept the consequences. That's it, that is the korvikoum.

"Lae'zel said that Shadowheart was like a dagger — unassuming, sharp, flexible, and still deadly if you were not cautious. Now, the gith's calloused hand wield Nocturne like a dagger, touch her like she's trying to parry, like they are locked in a duel. Nocturne wonders what happened between them, while Shadowheart was gone. What wounds Lae'zel is trying to avenge.
She weaves her fingers through Nocturne's hair and pulls, then bites and kisses at the exposed neck.
Shadowheart Nocturne knew was sharp plenty, but Nocturne would rather compare her to a shield. Strong, unbending and battered. Again and again she saw Shadowheart's back as she stepped in front of her, put herself between Nocturne and the world. "

"His mouth pressed into hers, tasting of relief, promises unspoken, every moment they had just shared without words. Her lips parted under his, and it was like breathing each other in, each inhale carrying the faintest trace of conjured starlight. She could taste the faint sweetness of tea from the little shop he’d spoken of, smell the phantom paper-dust of that Waterdeep bookshop. She saw flashes of streets and the city’s pulse, not as a place apart from her, but as though she had walked it beside him all her life.
The world she’d once thought belonged only to him – that glittering, unreachable life she could never quite picture herself in – now felt like hers, too, stitched into her as surely as the memories of battle and road-dust. In that moment, it wasn’t just his life anymore…it was theirs."

"The vehemence in Tate's voice was startling. She waited for him to elaborate, but he did not. Small hands were balled into shaking fists at his sides, his usual melancholic demeanor hidden behind a scowl as he raised his chin in defiance. It was as if he thought Jaheira would be angry that he found comfort in the news, and it made her heart ache more than the realization that she seemed destined to lead the funeral procession for everyone she's ever loved."
