Summary
It shouldn't be a surprise, really, if the knights think punching each other in the arm is a viable and efficient way of cheering each other up, that they also think insulting each other is a perfectly good way to show affection. Insults are compliments, threats are reassurances, and actual bodily harm is considered good manners or at the very least the mark of genuine companionship. Basically, take everything Merlin's ever been taught about how you actually treat the people you care about and flip it on its head, because stars know that if any one of these men actually behave as though being nice won't incinerate them, the world will actually end.
Alright, maybe he's being a bit harsh.

“Gaius, how am I meant to deal with this? I mean, they’ve already asked me so many questions! And today-! I accidentally revealed to Percy my magic!” Merlin complains.

It's been five years since Merlin became a dragonlord and now he's going through "dragonlord puberty." He grows wings, talons and fangs and gets Dragon-like behavior, such as collecting a hoard.
Which would be all fine and dandy except that Merlin's inner dragon decided to hoard his friends and now Merlin has to hope none of them notice his strange behaviours.

“You want me to come and cuddle you for warmth?” Merlin asked, tauntingly, but makes to stand up anyway.
“It’s not cuddling,” Arthur insisted, though he opens his arms for Merlin to crawl into them. “It’s called survival. I’m stealing your warmth. It’s your duty to make sure I’m kept comfortable, is it not?”

Arthur doesn't realise Merlin is his Favourite. Merlin has no idea what a King's Favourite even is. Everyone else in Camelot knows Merlin is Arthur's Favourite.

It should be said that Arthur Pendragon has a less than ideal dating history. In fact, if one were in the know about just how truly abysmal it is, they would probably be surprised that he still had an interest in dating at all. Which is why when Arthur informs Morgana, his sister, that he’ll be bringing his new boyfriend to the next get together she’s hosting, she’s understandably wary. But, she still hopes that for Arthur's sake, maybe this one will work out better than the last.
