“Have I got it?” Gladio asks, all earnest.
Noctis wishes it were so simple. Noctis wishes there was nothing else in his head but excitement, that the thought of Prompto and Gladio finally working things out wasn’t tied up with everything else that he’s been feeling for the last several months since Prompto tumbled into their lives.
“Now you’re serious, yeah,” Noct promises. “Prompto might have thought he was cut out for the casual thing - and I think he really was having fun - but he needs someone else for all the other shit too. No one’s ever taken care of him in his entire life and I’m trusting you to take it seriously.”
Gladio nods, “That’s all I want.”Alternatively: Prompto teaches Noctis that he's capable of loving people in every which way - and of being loved in return.

Summary
Aizawa Shouta was an underground hero, and a teacher trained to see all the signs of abuse. And from the moment he started training Shinsou Hitoshi, he had his suspicions.
He noticed the beat up clothing, the odd unexplained bruise here and there, the flinches at sudden movements, how the kid lit up at every little praise or kind word.
His student gave no indication anything was wrong at home, was quick to brush off any questions. A practiced liar, with a practiced nonchalant air.
It was frustrating, but Shouta knew there was nothing he could do until the kid admitted the truth to him, no matter what he suspected.
So the underground hero watched, and he waited. For the day his kid felt comfortable enough to come to him, or for a sign big enough that the school could investigate.
And a few months into training, it all came to a head.

Aizawa takes Hitoshi in with his emergency foster parent license. Hitoshi doesn't know how normal family dynamics work, but he's about to find out. Cue lots of hurt/comfort and family fluff.

For a long moment he assumed that he were abed dreaming or collapsed upon the floor experiencing some hallucination. A rush of warmth was replaced by a chill that claimed his belly and suddenly the room seemed smaller, colder, and Gladio could no longer breathe so easily. It couldn’t be, his mind told him. Not after everything.
(shortly after the death of the king, his shield flees the city in grief. but life has a habit of catching up in the end.)
