Summary
The first time Lómiel left Nan Elmoth, it had been like learning to breathe. The first gasp of air had come like a punch to her system as she felt the free chill rushing through her and looked up to the stars above. They had been pearls studding the winter mantle of the sky, and her eyes had drawn to them with a breathless rapture that made her full self still.
She had felt the same only twice in her life: when her father first brought her to the forge and whispered the secrets of metal in her ear, and when she had set eyes upon Idril. Both had been beginnings. All three had been enough to terrify her; none allowed her to look away.
*
In the tradition of Valinor, Turgon apprentices his niece Maeglin as a lady-in-waiting to his daughter in order to accustom her to Noldorin society and traditions. Maeglin could care less about the reasoning, as long as she is let to accompany Idril.

Summary
Upon waking in Valinor, Gwindor finds Finduilas completely unchanged. But death changes all, even the Eldar who stand against it, and Finduilas' death had not been easy. For all that he cannot see it, some difference must be wrought - the same as the change that has overtaken him.
Over their time in the Blessed Land, Gwindor and Finduilas reintroduce themselves and begin to relearn a friendship between the people they have become, still haunted by reminders of their past and a family that does not understand their reluctance to flourish in the beautiful home of the Ainur.

Summary
He tries to avoid his own people. There are other elf-spirits here too, the hosts of his father still, and the host of each doomed son, but they are faint, indistinct things, not quite close enough to touch. He does not want to see them, and shifts away at each approach, and they fade further from his view, blending into the grey walls of Mandos, hazy echoes of what had been and what might be. He would be the same to them, he has gathered, and thought better of it; he does not want to exist, to them. He does not want to exist, at all. His heart is gone, and his mind has gone with it, all frozen over by the gnashing, vicious ice, the deadened sky, his dead son. Dead. One, one, likely all. They are all dead. That is why they are here.
And then Fingon appears, bleeding and blazing and broken, the fire melting away the ice coating his heart and unlatching each lock, and Fingolfin is a father again.

Summary
Shen Yuan wakes up to the sound of crying.
He lies there for a moment, feeling like cling film stretched too tightly over something pointy, in danger of tearing down the middle but holding on by his fingernails. It’s dark, it’s smelly and he is laying face down against a heated stone floor, or maybe it’s just some faux stone tiles for the nature aesthetic. It feels like his brain got replaced with moss or cotton or balled up, wet paper towels that’s coming apart. In the stretched out moment where he takes it all in, he decides this fucking place sucks, and he will never visit again.
The crying is to his left.

Summary
"Look at this, I wanted to tell the world. Look at this heron, this bird who carries the entire universe in its eye and still chooses to look at me. Chooses to count Fingon, the vicar's son, within the expanse of its gaze. What a tragedy it is that we human beings are born with so much love to give, then forced to live lives too small and sparsely furnished to ever accommodate more than a fraction of it. How devastating that we spend our earliest years learning how to fence away and leave fallow the most promising fields of our hearts."
_________
British India, 1930s: early days of the ancient friendship turned lifelong love affair between notorious political gangster Comrade Maedhros Fëanorian and dance-master Fingon, the local vicar’s son.

Summary
The cryo chamber opened. The pseudo-Dipper dropped to its knees as it thawed, shuddering from the cold.
"Careful." Ford knelt next to the shapeshifter and tentatively touched its shoulder. "Are you alright?"
"I'm..." Its voice was rough and guttural; it feigned clearing its throat and said, "I'm—fine now. Thanks for letting me out, man. I guess I must've fallen in and got stuck." It was trying to sound like Dipper. Someone a kindly human rescuer wouldn't think twice about helping get outside.
"You can drop the act," Ford said, then forced himself to soften his voice; he was giving the shapeshifter permission, not a command. "I know you're Shifty."
Shifty jerked its head up. It gave Ford a nervous smile. "I don't know what you're talking about."
Ford sighed. "You insist you're a normal teenage human boy?" he asked. At Shifty's emphatic nod, he said, "Well, that's unfortunate, because I came down here to set a shapeshifter free."
(Ford, the shapeshifter, and a long-overdue apology.)

Summary
“There’s some sort of great cathedral within me,” Fingon had wanted to tell Maglor. “This vast, echoing hollow, the site of my father’s devotion. These days, there is only a single inhabitant. The vicar is dead and the bishop is nowhere to be found. Russo lives there alone, the final acolyte driven into madness, hollering irreverently, sloganeering and saluting, his self-destructive pacing desecrating every inch of the nave. The walls are worn thin, the windows collateral damage, and the foundations will crumble sooner than they should. But how can I exile him from it? How can anyone ask that of me? Why must I do such a thing? Cast him out? No. No, I cannot. It is a cathedral. It is a sanctuary.”
_______________
When he and Maedhros are obligated to attend a stranger’s wedding in Thrissur, Fingon finds himself navigating the differences between shame and embarrassment. A bittersweet vignette set in the Prayers to Broken Stone AU, but can be read standalone.Series
