Summary
Aaron feels like a rubber band at the best of times. What that means is that he goes from stretched and taut and too much to snapping at a moments notice, emotional impact made with whatever has caused his most recent panic. It's leftover stress from childhood needs permanently unaddressed. It's maladaptive, is what it is. Aaron is a rubber band, when he should have been water. He snaps and breaks instead of flows.
At his father's murder trial, Aaron doesn't leave a single thing out. He breaks down on the stand, nine years old and traumatized, while Martin watches and his father yells, and he cries and stutters over what it was like to hear his mother's neck snap as a room full of people watches on.

Jay sat in his grand bed, sunlight peaking through his windows at him. He curled up in the covers, his brow furrowed.
"And I-!" He said, cutting off and sighing as he continued to speak to Daisy. "Who am I kidding.. it's terribly lonely."
Gatsby had it all together. Gatsby put on a lavish facade of excitement. He put on a smile that seemed to understand everything. A true Oxford man, an extravagant and rich bachelor.
This was not Gatsby in his bed. This was Jay. Jay was broken and alone. Jay found it hard to smile, and found it hard to cope with seperation. Jay gave up Daisy and has resigned himself to his palace-like home ever since.

Early on in Nick's relationship with Jay, his parents send him a letter saying they want to meet the new addition to his life. A bit apprehensive, the pair visits Carraway house. It goes... surprisingly well, actually.

He takes Dean to a diner for lunch so that he can talk about his idea of hugging more, but Dean isn't exactly an enthusiastic participant in the discussion.
