Summary
Ten years after Fen'Harel swore to tear down the Veil that he himself had created, Varric reaches out a hand to Solas at the very end of the line—and Solas, standing on the knife's edge of regret and loss and guilt and duty, takes it. But that is not an end, it turns out, and in the aftermath of the pyrrhic victory Ruhi Aldwir finds all eyes on her.
The price of your success here is more hardship.
I'm sorry.

Summary
Rook was not a woman who asked for comfort, and he had never been the man anyone had sought it from. But in the small hours of the night, there is a knock on his door.

Summary
Morai has never been a woman given to shame. Perhaps it is the learned pride of a longtime First, or some inborn surety of her own, but she has always moved through the world upright and without apology for who she is; no alienage or Circle has ever taught her to bow her head. As unhappy as she had been with the suspicious looks in Haven and sneering whispers of Val Royeaux, still she met them with her chin raised, with her eyes up, with her stride easy and her shoulders straight.
When she leaves Solas at the water's edge, her first instinct is to hide her face, and that fills her with such bitter rage that she nearly shakes with it.
(placed in the series for chronology, but can be read as a standalone)

Summary
For over a year, branded by the Fade and beset at all sides by the end of the world, the Inquisitor had done the impossible day in and day out. It had honed the edge of the women beneath the title even as it chipped away at her. It had spurred her feet forward and bent her slender back. And it wasn’t until her final victory faded from sight behind her that she realized she no longer knew who she was without its weight.
In the wake of Corypheus's defeat, the Inquisitor remains while all else sifts through her fingers like sand. The gnawing ache of Solas's abandonment remains, but there is something beyond that hollowing her days. One question haunts her: in a changed world, where does she belong?
(Not necessary to read previous works in this series.)

Summary
She closes her eyes against the maelstrom. Tension leaps though still limbs; a shudder she does not feel shakes her.
"Spite," she says, strained, caught between too many tides.
"I smelled your nightmare," it says aloud, nasal and sharp, shaping the words with care. Here in the Fade it does not sound so very much like Lucanis, more removed from his voice than when it speaks with his throat in the waking world, but his accent still rounds its vowels. (what does it mean for a demon to speak here—) "You were frightened."
Rook stands before a flame speaking with a familiar voice. She’s a moth at heart, she knows. She will be ash.
(placed in the series for chronology. would benefit from the context of the main work, but can be read as a standalone)

Bookmarker's Notes
I was not ready to care desperately about Chess AU but I care. SO desperately. about Chess AU.
Solas voice pitch fucking perfect, absolutely unbelievable grasp on and translation of the character; Ellana is incredible and terrifying and believably, devastatingly burned out. The smut is hot, the emotions are real, and the chess... the chess is compelling.

Summary
It should be a quick, clean job. Get in, get what he needs, get out, move on. But then, Lucanis should be in Treviso, not riding a crowded Minrathous rail line towards the inner city. On several fronts, things are off plan.
Lucanis works alone (except when he doesn't). Rook isn't supposed to be working at all (except she kinda is). Teaming up would be ridiculous. Crazy. It's not going to happen.
(It's happening.)

Love as an unfinished sentence and being held at your most evil and insane. The pathos and pain of a Hawke who has lost her Varric. Crying if I think about any of it too hard.
