Or, more specifically, it’s the way that every time Louisa blinks, the afterimage of River laying on the ground between those shelves, covered in debris, is burned into the backs of her eyelids. It wouldn’t have been so bad, probably, if he hadn’t had to take off immediately to deal with that folder, or if Louisa had said fuck the debrief and gone with him. If they hadn’t been separated right after making it out of the hatch, they — or, at least, Louisa would probably be fine.
But they were. Separated.

There is something so oddly oxymoronic about the phrase dead tired.
Perhaps it would be simpler to call it a paradox. A paradox refers to a contradiction in a logical sentence or phrase. Dead tired. One cannot be tired if they are dead.
Cellbit is dead tired, yet his heart pounds in his ears as his eyes fly open with the terrified memory of something ripped from his throat. Is it an oxymoron or a paradox?

Wilbur knows he will not win, coming from a district that offers no experience useful in combat. He only wishes that he didn’t have to die alone, without his brother, Tommy, by his side.
Meanwhile, Grian thinks he might have a shot at winning with his pickaxe and his new ally, Scar, ready to help him.
Techno, on the other hand, knows he will win. With his sword in hand and his friend, Phil, by his side.
The only question is; Is it really worth it to win in a game where you watch everyone die around you? -

Long after they arrive Somewhere Else, Jon is laid up in bed suffering from the consequences of being dethroned as Pupil of the Eye, and gets thoroughly snuggled about it. Martin manages to say a few words about his own feelings and fears, and also gets snuggled.
