Summary
A short-lived series of private lessons took place after Christmas in Harry Potter's fifth school year, during which Severus Snape attempted to teach Harry the skill of Occlumency. The lessons were ultimately cancelled when Harry was caught prying into Snape's memories, discovering the strangest things: A mysterious prophecy connected Harry's fate with Voldemort's, Harry's dad was an insufferable bully, and Severus Snape had been in love with Harry's mum. Naturally, Harry now has a million questions. Snape would prefer to answer none.
The world is full of obvious things which nobody by any chance ever observes. The same question arises in every soul: "For what, for whom, must I kill and be killed?"
...Or, a classic approach to stubbornness.

There’s not enough time to decide which would look less suspicious—looking up or not. Slade grabs Dick’s hair and pulls him up, leaving him no choice but to move forward until he’s kneeling at Slade’s feet. He can hear shuddery sighs of relief from the other hostages and can’t blame them.

Or, in which Ford's interdimensional universal translator breaks, and he realizes just how much he's lost. Turns out thirty years of dimension-hopping aren't great for language retention.

The man beside him shifted, digging the metal cuff further into Izzy's wrist. His arm was warm; his voice was infuriating. He had not stopped talking since Izzy woke up with a splitting headache, no weapons, and no way to escape.
"This is unbelievably rude," said Bonnet.
Izzy and Stede are seized off the street, handcuffed together, and held for ransom. Together, they must figure out how to escape before they can be used as bait for Blackbeard's capture.

Summary
Izzy’s progress is halting, his brow sweaty and his jaw clenched in pain, but everyone knows better than to offer help or assistance. Well, Ed amends, wincing when Izzy’s wooden leg catches on an uneven floorboard, everyone but Stede, apparently.
“Oh, for goodness’ sake, man,” Stede tuts at Izzy, and actually does grab one of Izzy’s hands to firmly place it on his own arm, “you’re being absolutely impossible, Israel.”
Ed waits, gaze flickering back and forth between Stede and Izzy’s faces, ready to intervene in case of sudden violence. Because Izzy does look like he’s about to reach for one of the daggers he’s undoubtedly got stashed somewhere on his person, even out of his leathers, but then Stede nudges him, gently, towards the table, and Izzy blows out a frustrated breath, and that’s that.
Just like that.
[5 times Ed notices that Stede and Izzy have grown pretty damn close, plus the 1 time he has a
tantrumcompletely sensible and adult reaction about it.]
