Sonic huffs, the sound tinged with disbelief. "Let me get this straight. Whatever the hell you wanna call that little freakout just now…" He waves the hand not currently keeping Shadow at bay vaguely in his direction. "It happened because you weren't reciprocating?"
Put like that, it sounds stupid. Even so, Shadow nods. "Yes."

Turning around, the man himself appears. He’s little changed from when Goro last saw him: not in his Metaverse outfit, but in the clothes from that winter, a thick grey outer coat with a black sweater sticking out from underneath, blue scarf wrapped tightly his neck, glasses appropriately fogged from the Palace’s weather and his mop of black hair as unkempt as ever.
If it weren’t for the golden eyes, Goro would almost mistake him for the real person.
Thrown into solitary confinement the day after he shot Adam Kadmon, Akira forms a Palace. Fortunately for him, Goro Akechi intervenes.

After gifting Shadow his den so he has somewhere safe to stay while on the run, Sonic promises to keep Shadow’s fugitive identity and their growing friendship a secret in order to protect him.
Meanwhile, the Wachowski's under strict orders from G.U.N. to report any sightings of Shadow's whereabouts, and are clueless to Sonic’s escapades with their enemy. But, his plan to keep both sides of his life separate were dashed when Tails found out about Shadow and Sonic's relationship by himself, and now it’s only a matter of time before the rest of the family catch on, too.
Sonic is caught between his loyalty to Shadow and his duty to protect the family who saved him. He’s faced with the decision to betray Shadow's trust by revealing that his secret is compromised and lose what they have forever, or jeopardise Tom and Maddie’s safety by staying silent and intentionally deceiving G.U.N., risking everything they've built.
All Sonic has to do is maintain the balance without tipping the scales over the other, which shouldn't be an issue so long as he can keep his (probably, maybe, definitely romantic) feelings for Shadow under wraps.
What's the worst that can happen?

Green Hills is safe, and Tom’s injuries will be fully healed in a couple more weeks now, so his family is safe, too. And overall, they haven’t seemed to dwell too much on everything that had happened. At least, not anymore.
But Sonic hasn’t stopped thinking about it. His mind seems to run faster than he can nowadays, and he really can’t keep up no matter how hard he tries.”

Basically a mix of all my favorite live-action sonadow tropes I’ve been seeing and based off ideas I’ve read in other fics I’ve enjoyed. My own take on the ‘Sonic misses Shadow and then Shadow reappears and they have to hide that they’re meeting each other and slowly falling in love’ thing, if you will.

If you were to tell Sonic this was how his day would end, he never would have believed you… probably would have laughed and thrown out a “Yeah, sure, bud.”
But here he is — lying down with a clinging hoglet wearing his chili dog t-shirt, pressed to his chest, letting out soft snores and purrs.
It’s insane… One moment he’s carefree, scoping out an abandoned G.U.N. base with Grouchy Shadow — the next, he’s a dad to a lab-made hoglet using his and Shadow’s DNA of all people? Yeah. Crazy day.
Looking back on it, and how much it’ll change him and everyone around him, he can’t say he regrets his decision that night.
But right now, he doesn’t know that yet. All he can think is: “What am I supposed to do now?” as he pulls the blanket over the two of them for bed.

Or: A Sonadow fanchild AU I came up with because I really wanted to write a slow burn with a LOT of fluff. It might start out angsty (especially with Shadow the Dumbass — but he’ll come around), but trust me, it’s mostly just found family fluff and Sonic learning how to be the best dad possible with help from his friends.
Granted, with lots of bumps along the way.

He feels it when he catches himself thinking of the other, whether he is plagued by frustrations he cannot pinpoint the source of or mundanely daydreaming in passing, it courses through him like a sixth sense — as often gentle as it is harsh, a tap on the shoulder or a punch to the face, yet always undeniable.
A closeness, something more than a feeling but not quite its own emotion, something that Sonic knows has a name but can’t quite recall it, something he feels he should understand but is too embarrassed to admit he doesn’t, something on the horizon that he squints in an attempt to make out, yet it still looks blurry around the edges.
Something Shadow has figured out, but refuses to elaborate upon.
Rivalry. It had to be.
