Life had made a 180 on Bradley Uppercrust III. After losing to Max Goof and his friends, and almost killing them, Bradley was not only dethroned from being king of extreme sports on campus; he was almost expelled, only escaping that fate thanks to his father pulling strings to allow him to stay in college and in the Gamma Mu Mu house, just not as its leader. Instead of being arrested, he was required to attend therapy twice a week for a year and do community service. He was also banned from the X-Games, both as a participant and an attendee.

“Hey newbie. Ever worked in a bar before?” the guy asks with an easy smile. Steve snaps his eyes up to meet his, and shit they’re pretty. The greeting would be charming from anyone else, perhaps even from the guy himself if he’d not overheard the exchange moments before, but Steve’s insides curl at the condescension.
“Yeah. For about five years. Thanks. And my name’s Steve,” he responds, voice clipped. He yanks at the ties of his apron, knotting the bow just a little tighter than is comfortable. He’ll have to adjust it later, but the man’s dark eyes are roaming over him like he’s something edible, and there’s no way Steve’s going to give any indication whatsoever that he’s prey.
“Nice to meet you, Steve. I’m Eddie.”
Steve can’t prevent the way his face scrunches in confusion, because surely not. There’s no way that this is the Eddie. Sure, he’s not exactly hard on the eyes, but from the little Steve’s experienced of him so far, he seems like a major ass. The way Bridget had hyped him up, anyone would think fucking Jon Bon Jovi worked here.

Being cool at Hawkins High required two things, mainly: having money and making Eddie Munson’s life a complete hell. Steve’s friends, despite being in the grade below Eddie for all of their life except senior year, had kicked him to the floor, called him things Steve would run someone over if they ever said in Robin’s vicinity, dented his van and carved words into its walls, and, on more than one occasion, torn up his papers for his “freak game” that Steve now knows take an astonishing amount of time to formulate. Granted, even before Nancy, he tried his best to steer clear of the worst offenses, following a voice he now recognizes and common sense, but he still laughed or looked the other way when Tommy was being an asshole.
Eddie should want him dead, no matter how much Dustin tried to convince him Steve was nice. He shouldn’t be rushing in with his guitar to save his life.
