Mike felt shivers down his spine. Breathed in, breathed out. Okay, he thinks to himself. Okay. You’re exhausted, and hallucinating your ex-best friend screaming your name. That’s perfectly normal. That’s fine.
Eighteen months after everything ended, Mike Wheeler is failing to write a story about a paladin who waited too long. Then Will's voice starts calling to him from the void, and Mike has to relive every moment he was too blind to see what was right in front of him.

Summary
The door to Mike’s garage burst open. Mike scrambled backward, body feeling heavy from the water on his clothes. From the door came Will Byers. His bowl-cut was longer and overgrown. He wore a grey shirt with red and blue stripes and red denim shorts. He looked pained. This makes no sense, Mike thought. This was a younger Will, from the summer of 1985. How was Mike back here?
“Will? What's going on?” Mike asked the younger Will.
“Will, come on!” came another voice. “You can’t leave, it’s raining!”
It was Mike at fourteen. He looked awful; he had a bright yellow striped shirt with grey shorts. He was a gangly mess of long limbs. His hair… Mike was embarrassed of his past self.
“Listen, I said I was sorry, alright? It’s a cool campaign, it’s really cool. We’re just not in the mood right now!” the younger Mike explained. Will didn’t stop packing his bag. He spun on Mike.
“Yeah, Mike! That’s the problem, you guys are never in the mood anymore. You’re ruining our party!” the younger Will shouted.
OR: Byler season 5 re-write (canon compliant), including the painting lie, Mike getting Vecna'd, and a proper coming out scene.
